Stokes not seeking re-election

Dothan City School Board Chairman Steve Stokes will not seek re-election in the upcoming 2009 election.

Stokes said Thursday he’s standing down to pursue other interests, and that he’s accomplished many of the goals he set out to do when he took the chairman’s job in 2005.

“Every organization needs new blood periodically,“ Stokes said. “I’ve done a lot. We’ve gotten better discipline and a better relationship with parents. We still haven’t made AYP, but I’m hoping we’ll do that this year.“

Former Northview High School football coach Harry Wayne Parrish has expressed interest in seeking the chairman’s seat on the board.
