The Wiregrass area could face severe weather Wednesday, but the chances are slim.
"The chances of getting rain are pretty good, about 80 percent, but the chances of getting severe weather are only slight," said Jeff Fournier, a forecaster for the National Weather Service in Tallahassee. "There's a 15 percent chance of severe weather occuring within 25 miles (of Dothan)."
The NWS classifies severe thunderstorms as those containing winds in excess of 58 mph.
Fournier said Wiregrass residents should stay alert, even though the chances of severe weather may be small.
"Fifteen percent doesn't sound high, but considering that the chances are usually close to zero percent, it's worth paying attention to," Fournier said. "And with rain like that, there's always a chance of localized flooding, (but) I don't expect it to be widespread."
