Ozark police seized a shotgun from an 18-year-old during a reported domestic violence incident only two weeks before Dothan police say he used another gun to shoot two police officers during a convenience store robbery.

Andrevis Deon Davis was arrested on March 15 in Ozark, during which officers seized a .12 gauge shotgun.

Davis was charged with misdemeanor third-degree domestic violence and later released from the Dale County Jail after he posted a $500 bond, according to Ozark Deputy Police Chief Myron Williams.

The manager of the Forest Haven apartment complex reported a domestic violence incident after he received reports of loud noises coming from an apartment, Williams said. After the manager went to the apartment he found Davis carrying the shotgun. Williams said the incident stemmed from harassment issues Davis had with his girlfriend, Teona Sterling.

“He was holding a shotgun at the time when the manager walked up,“ Williams said. But Davis apparently put the gun down by the time police arrived. “He could not explain ownership of the gun.”

But police did not file any weapons charges because the gun had not been reported stolen, Williams said.

Davis and Sterling, 19, of New Brockton, were each charged Friday, along with 18-year-old Kiara Watson, with their involvement in a convenience store shooting at a Dothan Hobo Pantry that left two Dothan police officers wounded. All three teenagers were charged with two counts of attempted murder, three counts of first-degree kidnapping, and first-degree robbery.

Dothan police officers Walter Ray Handley, 31, and Arthur Schaefer III, 37, each suffered at least one gunshot wound.

Davis was in serious, but stable condition at a Dothan hospital after he suffered three gunshot wounds during the shooting. Sterling and Watson are both being in the Houston County Jail without bond.

Since December, Davis has been involved in four incidents which have led to charges against him, including the domestic violence charge and the shooting of the officers.

He was first arrested by Headland police in December and charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, first-degree sex abuse and first-degree burglary. In January he posted a $190,000 bond and was released from jail.

On Feb. 21, Davis was arrested again, this time on a felony possession of cocaine charge in Dothan, then released after he posted a $2,500 bond. Houston and Henry County District Attorney Doug Valeska said the prosecution filed a motion to revoke Davis’ bond for the sexual assault charges on March 13 because of his arrest on the felony drug charge. A judge set Davis’ revocation hearing for April 8, but Judge Derek Peterson revoked Davis’ bond on Monday after the prosecution filed a second motion asking for the revocation.

Houston County District Court Judge Brad Mendheim also revoked Davis’ bond on Monday on the felony drug charge in Dothan, Valeska said.
