Abbeville police seize 10 pounds of marijuana
A Dothan man is behind bars after Abbeville police seized more than 10 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $10,000 during a recent traffic stop on U.S. 431.
Police Chief Mike Jones said Officer Jesse Ingram arrested Cecil Darrell Chambers, 35, of Meridian Street and charged him with felony trafficking marijuana. Chambers was taken to the Henry County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
Jones said Ingram stopped the gold 2004 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Chambers for traveling with improper lights in the southbound lanes of traffic. He said police found the marijuana in the trunk of the car inside a blue tote bag separated into 11 one gallon bags.
It’s unclear where the drugs came from because Jones said Chambers did not give a statement to police.
Chambers traveled alone in the car when police stopped it around 11:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of U.S. 431 and Industrial Park Road.
