Ariton man struck, killed by Louisville police officer

Feliciano Lopez Castillo, 29, of Ariton, was struck and killed Saturday night by Louisville police officer Lonnie Adams on state Highway 51, just inside the Clio city limits.
Clio Police Chief Richard Johnson said the accident happened around 10 p.m. Castillo was reportedly attending a party in Clio.
Johnson said Castillo had crossed the street to where his vehicle was parked. As he crossed back over, he was struck by Adams, who was driving a Louisville patrol car at the time.
Castillo was taken to Dale Medical Center but died at the hospital.
“He (Castillo) died later that Saturday night,” Johnson said.
Adams, who is also a deputy with the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department, was on duty at the time. Johnson said there were no other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Johnson said the tragedy was an accident, though it’s currently being investigated.
“I don’t think he did anything wrong,” Johnson said, “the investigation will be completed today or tomorrow.”
The speed limit where the accident occurred is 40 mph. Johnson said late Monday morning he did not know how fast Adams was driving since the investigation had not yet been completed.

It does not matter who he was working for. he did the appropriate thing. He tried to help the man. I have a lot of respect and honor for officers ofthe law. They all have families just like us. They all want to come home to them everyday, but they chose to risk their lives to serve, and protect. My condolences go to the victim’s Family, and to the officer involved.
For a law officer, it’s just an “accident”. For anyone else, it’s a crime. It’s so sad that there is so little respect and trust for our law enforcement. What’s even sadder, is that our law enforcement is the reason we feel that way….
My sincere condolences for the family of the victim….
If he was working for the Houston County Sheriff he’d just get a one day suspension for killing someone.
