Bright brings ‘mobile congressional office’ to Wiregrass towns

Rep. Bobby Bright speaks to Cottonwood residents Saturday afternoon during a “Congress on Your Corner” meeting.
When Rep. Bobby Bright was sworn in, he vowed to take a hands-on approach in dealing with his constituents.
That vow has led to Bright’s “Congress on Your Corner” tour, in which he plans to visit each of District 2’s 92 municipalities to solicit the needs and opinions of their residents.
Saturday, Bright met with residents and local officials in Cottonwood, Madrid and Rehobeth to discuss hot-button topics such as health care, federal spending and government bailouts.
“It’s really a mobile congressional office,” Bright said. “We go out into communities like Cottonwood to talk, to hear and discuss issues that are affecting my constituents, getting their feedback and suggestions. Many of them have good suggestions for what I should do when I go back to Washington. It’s helping me.”
During the Cottonwood meeting, residents raised concerns about health care reform, the future of Social Security and funding for public safety.
According to Bright, he wants to succeed where he feels many congressmen have failed.
“When I was campaigning, the recurring thing that concerned me was that many folks really don’t understand what their congressman does,” he said. “I want them to be able to ask me questions and hear me respond personally. That’s what a representative is for. My goal is to be the best congressman Alabama’s ever seen, and the only way I can do that is to go out and meet with the people I represent. I don’t want anybody in my district to go without saying, ‘I know my congressman.’”
More than a dozen Cottonwood residents and workers attended the meeting at City Hall, and Bright assured them he’ll support small businesses and the interests of small towns.
“We’ve been overwhelmingly received in Rehobeth, Madrid and Cottonwood. It says a lot, and I’m humbled that they would come out and spend their time on a Saturday afternoon to listen to me,” he said. “I’m here for them.”
Bright said he’s already visited 50 cities in the district and plans to finish his tour by the end of August.

Thank you Congressman Bright for your many visits, making the office accessible to many. Your thoughtful conservative votes since being elected reinforce my belief that you are the right man for the job.
I applaud him for making the rounds - however, I can’t imagine why he supports Nancy Pelosi as she continues to flat out lie about CIA briefings she received concerning the War on Terror. Likewise, she commented that the CIA always misleads Congress. And when it came time to have the matter looked into to see what Pelosi knew and when (that would have shown she has lied) Bright voted to block such a review. Also, when he casts his first vote in Congress, it was to elect Pelosi Speaker. Afterwards, he said it was a “no brainer” as she was supportove as his campaign. Yep - she sure was. Pelosi and the DNC gave almost 1 million dollars to Bright. I guess the cash paid off for her as he votes with her almost 80% of the time including allowing her to lie and then call the CIA the liars…..and he voted to make sure she was NOT reviewed for those comments. amazing. truly amazing. Travel the district all you want Bright, but with those kind of votes, you will not last long.
