Chance of severe weather Wednesday evening
It could be a windy day in the Circle City, according to the National Weather Service.
Severe storms are expected to form across southeast Alabama at around 3 p.m. and produce potentially damaging winds.
“The current projections we have is for the greatest severe weather threat to begin around 3-4 p.m. Central and continue through the evening hours, winding down at 10 or 11 Wednesday night. The main threat damaging winds and some hail,” said Kelly Godsey, a forecaster with the NWS in Tallahassee. “There could be an isolated tornado or two, but the main threat is damaging winds, which could be just as dangerous and destructive.”
Damaging straight-line winds, which Godsey said Dothan has a slight risk of facing tomorrow night, can reach speeds between 60 and 80 mph.
“We’re in a slight risk with some pretty good probabilities for severe weather, so it’s something we want everybody to pay close attention to,” Godsey said. “If a warning comes out, take shelter immediately.”
