City to consider city manager’s contract
The Dothan City Commission will vote today on whether or not to renew City Manager Mike West’s employment contract.
For the first time, the commission will be allowed to give West more than a two-year contract, due to changes in the law last year. Some officials have said they favor a three-year contract. He could be given a two, three or four-year deal, or the commission could vote not to renew him.
West’s contract has been a source of contention the last two years because some officials feel the employment agreement favors West over the city. If West leaves the city, he is only required to give a 30-day notice. If the city terminates him, it is with a nine-month notice. Some commissioners think that is unfair.
The commission meets at 10 a.m. in the Driggers Municipal Building on North St. Andrews Street.
