Funeral services for Dale County High School football coach Phillip Todd Horne, who died from injuries he received in a wreck in Ozark on Tuesday, have been announced.

Phillip Todd Horne, a resident of Grimes, died early Tuesday evening, July 29, 2008, in the emergency room of a Dothan hospital of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident which occurred in Ozark.  He was 38.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Ozark Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Miller and Dr. Billy D. Gaither officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, near Midland City. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday in the sanctuary of the Ozark Baptist Church. At other times, the family will be at the residence in Grimes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Athletic Club of Dale County High School, P.O. Drawer 1140, Midland City, AL 36350.

Todd Horne was a lifelong resident of Grimes in Dale County and was a 1987 graduate of the Dale County High School in Midland City. He attended Wallace Community College and later graduated from Troy University in Dothan with degrees in History and Social Sciences. Todd was currently employed by the Dale County Board of Education as head football coach, athletic director and also as a history teacher at Dale County High School. He was also an active partner in the operation of Horne Cattle Company.

Todd was formerly employed at G. W. Long High School in Skipperville as the defensive coordinator of the football team, head coach of the girls basketball team and as an assistant baseball coach. While serving as an assistant coach at G. W. Long, the baseball team won nine state championships. Todd was a highly successful girls basketball coach and during the twelve seasons he served, his record was 215 wins and 68 losses. He also served as a coach for the Department of Recreation for the City of Ozark for five years. In earlier years, Todd coached baseball at Ariton High School.

Todd was an active member of the Corinth Free Will Baptist Church, near Midland City, where he served as a trustee and sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Wiregrass Athletic Conference and the Alabama Athletic Association and was also a member of the National Angus Association. Todd was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Cloady and Mary Chellie Vann Horne.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Alisa Yopp Horne, two sons, Colby Horne and Cameron Horne, his parents, Phillip and Sandra Bolden Horne, a brother, Jeffery Scott Horne and wife, Janice Horne, his maternal grandmother, Irene Bolden; a nephew, Grant Horne, all of Grimes; an uncle, Vann Horne and wife, Carolyn Horne, Trussville, AL.; his mother-in-law, Joyce Whitebread and husband, Glenn Whitebread, Ozark; his father-in-law, David Yopp and wife, Diane Yopp, Christiansburg, VA.; cousins, Melissa Bozeman, Christy Slaughter and Ashley Bolden.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Jimbo Payne, Terry Goodson, Drew Danner, Levy Boutwell, Earl Miller, Lamar Brooks, Braxton Bell, Jr. and Tommy Stevens. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be present and former players and coaches.
