Dale County schools talk dress code
Dale County School officials are asking for parental input on the school’s dress code policy.
The system will hold a work session after its 5 p.m. school board meeting on Tuesday, July 14 to discuss any possible changes to the dress code for the upcoming year. The deadline to be placed on the agenda to speak is Friday, July 11.
Dale County Schools Superintendent Donny Bynum said one of the issues considered will be the length of shorts and whether they can be allowed amid the summer’s heat and during physical education courses. The system’s current dress code prohibits the wearing of shorts for students in grades seven through 12.
The system will also review other school system’s dress codes, he said.
Dale County Schools is known for holding public forums to discuss some district-wide changes. Bynum said discussion over the dress code should be no different.
“We have a good dress code policy in place but many parents and students have requested that we take a closer look at certain parts. ... We encourage parental and student input and certainly value their views, “ he said.
