Dothan teen found guilty of armed robbery

A jury found a teenager guilty Tuesday of an armed robbery of a Dothan Movie Gallery store.
Malcolm Jamaal Floyd, 18, of Hidden Glen Way, was arrested in April 20, 2007, about 18 days after the robbery. He was released from jail a few days after his arrest after he posted a $50,000 bond.
Floyd will be sentenced in front of Circuit Court Judge Larry Anderson on Nov. 7. For the class A felony conviction he faces 10 to 99 years or life in prison.
Assistant District Attorney David Atwell said Floyd was convicted of a robbery at the Movie Gallery on Murphy Mill Road in Dothan.
Atwell said several items of evidence presented in the case could’ve played a key role in the jury’s verdict, including several towels found in the defendant’s car. He said the men in the robbery wrapped towels around their heads during the robbery at the video store.
“He dropped his identification outside the store,“ Atwell said.
Atwell said there were two other men believed to be involved in the robbery. Only one of those men has been charged. A first-degree robbery charge filed against Cordarius Hill in the robbery of the Movie Gallery in April 2007, is still pending. Hill, 19, of Adams Street, remains held in the Houston County Jail on charges in connection to the April robbery of the video store. Hill’s trial is scheduled for next month in front Anderson.
Atwell said a jury acquitted Hill last month of an unrelated robbery at the same Movie Gallery, which occurred in June 2007.
