Flood warning for small streams in Covington County
Published: April 1, 2009
The National Weather Service in Mobile has issued a flood warning for small streams in north central Covington County until 12:15 p.m. Thursday.
At 12:17 p.m., the NWS in Mobile, working in conjunction with the Covington County Emergency Management Authority, has received reports of flooding along the Pastaliga and Bucks Creek tributaries that flow into the Conecuh River, just north of River Falls. This is in a location of rural northwest Covington County where the three water channels meet.
Flooding will continue as water levels rise and remain elevated at River Falls for the next day.
A flood warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reporter. However, all interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.
The NWS warns that most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive a vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deep than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the road. When encountering flooded roads, make the smart choice and turn around. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
