Flooding, tornadoes possible when Fay hits Wiregrass

Tropical Storm Fay is still projected to make its way to Southeast Alabama by this weekend and forecasts are predicting the possibility of flooding and tornadoes from the storm.

Houston County Emergency Management Agency Director Clark Matthews said there is a high risk for tornadoes and “flash urban river and area flooding” as Fay dumps rain as it passes through.

Sustained winds could be 20 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts up to 35 miles per hour.

The weather system should start reaching the Wiregrass Friday night.
