Klan fliers circulate in Wiregrass
The plain flier features a clip art picture of a hooded man carrying a torch. He is wearing a white, flowing cape and sits on top of a horse.
Around him are the words “Save Our Land. Join the Klan.”
The fliers are circulating in the Wiregrass, according to the Rev. Kenneth Glasgow, who said one found its way to the offices of WCMA Radio in Level Plains. The station is managed by Glasgow’s Christian ministry known as TOPS, or The Ordinary People Society.
Glasgow said the station received calls from several residents in the Daleville area who reported receiving the flier.
“I just couldn’t believe it,” Glasgow said.
Underneath the picture of the klansman on a horse is contact information for the headquarters of the International Keystone Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, an Arkansas-based group whose Web site references an Alabama office in Pinson as well as one in Newton. No contact information is on the Web site for the Newton office, only a post office box.
“I don’t know if this has been going on all the time and they just got more bold or what,” said Glasgow, who is black. “We have a lot of local leaders in our community who are working together — black, white and hispanic — and that’s something positive that is going on.”
A phone message left by the Dothan Eagle at the International Keystone Knights headquarters in Colt, Ark., was not returned.
Mark Potoc, director of the Intelligence Project for the Southern Poverty Law Center, said “literature drops” are a common form of recruitment for klan groups.
“Sometimes they will make literature drops indiscriminantly, at a Wal-Mart parking lot or a Sam’s, something like that,” Potoc said. “Other times, they will flier a neighborhood they believe would be sympathetic to their beliefs.”
The International Keystone Knights is designated as a hate group by the SPLC. Potoc said the number of klan chapters had dropped between 2005-07, but increased last year.
“Some have speculated (the rise) grew on the backs of the immigration issue, or possibly related it to Obama,” Potoc said. “I don’t think there is really a definite explanation.”

Because of organizations such as,the Black Panthers,SPLC,NAACP,ACLU and AL and Jessie defending minorities in cases where it is not justified, and carry things a little to far,I consider these groups “Hate Groups"they cause more tension between the races than the Klan.I wish the Klan could draw in some very educated people and become more political.
I would hope that there are at least some halfway intelligent people out there in Alabama that won’t let this kind of hatred get a foothold in our area. We can sit here and spout scripture, we can sit here and say that the Klan does “good” things too, like beating the crap out of no-good white guys. The truth remains. The only thing you see or hear that comes from the mouths of these hate-filled people is ignorance. Such ignorance shows when they can’t even string words together to produce a coherent sentence. I think that we need to look within ourselves. Not at the color of someone’s skin. Black can be the color of someones soul, and the majority of the time, you see the proof in the actions of these so called “good ol’ boys”. Switching races isn’t right. They’re human beings the same as we are. They have the right of freedom, equality, and to live in peace without feeling like they’ll find a burning cross in thier yard. I thought these days were in our past, aren’t we supposed to learn from the sins of our fathers? This is the bible belt, where’s your scriptures, where is the love for one another that Christ asked of us? The Klan calls themselves christians, they believe in God, they believe in the teachings of Jesus. Where is this Jesus and God that they speak of? Because I have a feeling that they aren’t the same as the ones we know. People really need to come together and open thier eyes. They need to stand up for what is right.
oh and that North American Union is Called The United States of America
@Cowboyy1….,
Being one who believe that there is but “one North American Union and it’s ashame that racism along with canadian arrogance has stunted its’ growth” , I wouldn’t normally have a problem with this so called “Mexican infiltration”, if these people were from Mexico but since they’re NOT, I take issue. (legal or not)
Funny how Al Sharpton, Al Gore, Jesse Jackson, the ACLU, the NAACP, ACORN, SPLC and others get a free ride from most of you though they bully people more than the Klan does! Hypocrites!! And Glasgow has his agenda too!
I am 52 years old and all my life this country we live in has been a black and white thing. I dont really see where we have that kind of issue now. But what blacks and whites both better wake up to is the Mexican infiltration into this country. We dont need the Mexican Trash that is comming accross the Border. As far as the Klan. Well I know that there have been wrongs done by so called Klansmen. Just like There have been wrongs done by Black Panthers. Even in Church organizations wrongs are done. Look at the Cathalic Church. Everything has good and Bad in it. The klan was started to keep sorry white men in line who would not take care of there familys. and just like everything else. You had bad sides to as well.
As far as i’m comcerned the Klan is no more radical than ACORN and isn’t any more hateful that Obama’s Trinity United Church of Christ.
Last year my husband at a neighbor’s home standing in the front yard when a group of men stopped and got out of their vehicle to hand them Klan applications…Apparently they were riding around in the neigborhood and doing this. I was not there to witness this but I did see the application first hand long enough to rip it up and throw it away..I was outraged! I could not believe that they would have the audacity to even do that..I can’t believe these people. They were lucky I wasn’t there to give them a piece of my mind.
I grew up in a small central Florida town. There were 4 classes of people: whites, white trash, blacks and the “n-word,“ to satisfy Eagles Terms and Conditions. We didn’t need the Klan to show us the differences then, and we don’t need it now. Generally, anyone you treat with dignity and respect will return the favor.
In the late 1970’s, I had several conversations with a “lifetime” klan member who was in his very late 70’s and a customer of mine. He told me about “showing his butt” at the food stamp office because a very old and feeble black man, in front of him, was given less than $20 in food stamps for the month and told me stories of members of the klan taking WHITE men who blew their paychecks on liquor instead of food to feed their families for “a ride and talk” the first time and a “ride and beating” the next time, if the first ride didn’t work. There’s more to the klan than JUST being a so-called “hate group”.....and NO, I’m not now, nor have ever been, a klan member.
