This is a reply to busymom, you must have been very busy when you read my comment and mistakenly read the words seedy and dirty which i did not write. I do not appreciate for you to take your opinions and try to reword mine to make them suitable for you. Next time take the time to read the comment and actually understand what was being said before you express your opinion. And from reading yours you seemed to imply corruption is quite present in some of the local pagents. As you stated “ethical questions, give pagents a very poor name, poor judgement”. I just stated due to the actual events that happened in my presence i and my daughter felt that her partaking in anymore pagents was out of the question. Thank you
Hi JimCrowe…I agree with you. This type of mentality is partly to blame for the flesh trade of little kids. They should be at home playing in the backyard…
Let me start by saying, I do not know if anything “under handed” occured at this pageant—they were all adorable and it would have been hard to choose—which is why you have a point system to begin with—though it doesn’t seem that pageants use the point system often times as the category wins do not line up with the title wins. I do think it was in poor judgement to have a husband/wife team on the judges panel and then have them sit next to one another and have the wife lean over and whisper things to the husband in full sight of everyone in floor seating. If this were my pageant and I were overseeing it I would not want there to be any “Appearance of impropriety”. This is one of the STRICTEST pageants around with many little quirks that don’t seem to add up, so why they’d be so negligent when selecting judges is beyond me. I do think there is alot of “political” stuff that goes on behind the scenes from time to time in certain pageants, and it is hard to understand how one child can win lots of categories and then not win but it happens all the time. I’ve seen children win interview and CLEARLY outshine everyone on stage and then have some child from left field come up to win the title.
I do think that people that are hosting these local pageants need to be held accountable for getting judges that are not from this area—several Little Miss preliminaries had people from Eufaula. The Miss Dothan Pageant actually got a “pageant person” who knows MANY of the girls—sells pageant dresses and has a shop set up in Eufaula. He has connections to many of the girls as his “partner” coaches girls for pageants, so there are clearly some ethical questions and whomever oversaw that pageant should never do so again because if that were just due to oversight, it should never be allowed to happen again. I think in this industry you HAVE to take EXTRA steps to make sure everything is fair and square or you lose all credibility and getting local judges is a VERY BAD idea. There was one judge at a BIG preliminary pageant that was from Ashford but because she’d moved to Eufaula a few years ago, they claimed she was from Eufaula which was still too close to be judging, not to mention that many of the audience members KNEW she was from Ashford and it just so happened she had a common interest with the parent of the girl chosen. It’s situations like that, that give pageants a very poor name, however there are MANY positve aspects to pagentry and there are life-long lessons to be learned. There are LOTS of honest pageants and well-run pageants. I think scoring systems should be clearly explained at the start and scoring sheets should not be shred but should be given to the contestants so that everyone is on the same page and there can be no disupute, much like the big national pageants televised who show the score on the screen…what’s to hide?
I think that there are many fair pageants and I do not think that pageants are “seedy and dirty” as the man/woman from Slocomb has tried to say, however I think you’re always going to have a bad apple here or there and the organizations and clubs that sponsor these pageants should be firm with who and how judges are selected to maintain a good repuation for themselves.
My daughter use to love to be in pagents, not by my or my wifes pressure she was truly excited to do this. But several years ago in Slocomb the Little Miss Slocomb pagent came about and she wanted to enter. Which cost me an arm and leg but I did not mind as it was good for her to be involved in such activities… Well she won every event of the pagent and i mean every event, best dressed interview, photogenic, so on and so on. BUT when it came down to the main winner she lost. I did not get upset i was very very proud of her but boy did the crowd get upset and i mean they did get upset. I was proud for her and what she accomplished but that was the last time she entered a pagent not by my choice but by hers. She wanted no part of it again. As the years have passed one of the pagent sponsers or whatever you call them was arrested in Dothan at Westgate park for solicting a man for sex. Boy am i glad my daughter got out of this sick business as I have more pride in my daughter and our family than to subject her to the crooked and unfair practices of the pagents in this area. Enough said parents if you want to let your kids do this but as a concerned parent and a wise child we will never ever again submit ourselves to this joke of an event….
We should have a tradition like the fine people of Ecuador have. In their Guinea Pig Festivals the particpants are dressed up in their Sunday best and judged on looks. Several minutes later the little critters are placed in hot oil and fed to the admiring crowd…
These pageants are a joke. Little girls forced to parade around to fulfill their mothers dreams. What a shame. I saw some just today with magnetic signs on their cars…look at me, look at me!
This is sad for someone to take something as a pagent for 6 & 7 year olds and bash it. I attended the pagent & I didn’t feel the husband & wife judges could control the pagent that has been said in an earlier post. As a matter I fact I watch the judges & I didn’t see the duo have any conversation to each other as the girls were on stage. I feel their decision was one that I wouldn’t want to have to do. Each one of those girls were precious in their own way. The each display their personality in their own way as for the winner I feel as though her on stage question was far better than the rest of the girls & obviously that is why she was given the title of the queen. I did not have a child that participated in the pagent my 19 year old daughter & I attended the pagent & meet friends there. We all agreed with the judges decision. We enjoyed the pagent & will attend it next year. As far as,“Darlene” being able to recommend someone to enter this pagent. You can’t the little girl has to be in a prelimnary pagent in her home town that is how each girl was able to participate. Sad Sad Day when someone has to take something this special away from little girls to make themselves feel better.
First, I would like to start by saying something the poster “Darlene” did not bother to, Congrats to all 46 beautiful little girls who competed at the Little Mis NPF pageant. You were all beautiful and I am sure everyone that knows each of you is extremely proud of you.
Second, I want to make a few replies in regard to Darlene’s comments. I direct pageants, judge and my daughters compete. When directing, we all try to make everything go as well as possible. We look for ways to avoid comments like yours as much as possible, keeping in mind there will always be some complaints. While I agree the husand and wife duo should not have been seated together, I have friends who are married who judge together and they often disagree on who they pick. Also, keep in mind these are little girls. Yes, we spend a lot of money to get to this pageant, but as someone who judges I can tell who just is not comfy on stage as compared to someone who is obviously confident and graceful and maybe made one little mistake. They are SEVEN for goodness sake..let’s ease up on them some! As a dear friend of mine who is heavily into pageants once said “Peanut is looking for a little girl and they don’t Want a Jon Benet. You don’t have to be perfect to become the Ambassador of the peanut industry.“ Peanut made this clear when they went to no make up on little miss’s and changed the style of dress they wear.
As for the interview winner not placing…that happened last year and this year…but obviously you were not listening when they said the top ten is determined by written, stage and interview..then the scores are wiped clean and they each have a fresh start and the winners are determined by their second stage walk and verbal. I might have not agreed completely with the top ten (because rarely does anyone always have the same opinion…which is all judging really is..an opinion) I can honestly say that most of the top ten I could see being there…BUT I always keep in mind I did not read their written communications nor did I see them in interview.
Every one of the girls who made it into the Queen’s court were absolutely deserving..along with many others..but there can only be four. All four had personality, were confident, graceful and well spoken..which is what Peanut wants. Camilla Crenshaw is absolutely one of the most adorable little girls I have met in pageants. I do not know her personally (nor did I have a child in this pageant), but I judged a mock interview she was in back before prelims and I said right then she had the potential to win Little Miss NPF. Apparently more than just me thought so.
I think Peanut does the best they can. This pageant is always under more scrutiny due to how famous it has become around here. They are held to a high standard and I think they meet the challenge. No, I will not always agree with the choices, but I was not hired to judge. However, they always go above and beyond to put on a top notch program that obviously is good enough to draw top competition and tons of sponors from the Tri-State Communities.
I hope you realize how negative and awful you sounded in regard to little girls. You sounded as if you were saying the girls who won and placed didn’t deserve it because they did not win interview or do an absolute perfect walk. They obviously did well enough in interview for it to put them in the top ten. The judges just thought those four were consistently best from beginning to end and made a joint decision between the FIVE scores (not just two being the husband and wife’s) to make them the court.
I could go on and on, but I wont. It’s just sour grapes and anyone who is involved with pageants knows to expect these kinds of reactions.
Congrats to Camilla and all the girls who competed. You were all beautiful, whether you were perfect or not. You were confident, beautiful little girls and that is what Peanut wants!
I attended the Little Miss Pageant Oct 17, and was very disappointed in the way it was judged.
First of all I had no children/grandchildren in this pageant and am very thankful i didn’t.
Never should a husband and wife be allowed to judge a pageant together, it was noted them talking throughout the pageant.
Some girls made mistakes that should have not placed them in the top 10 but they were there. Alot of parents pay good money to have children coached and prepared for this elite pageant and it was a disgrace to them to have there child perform very well and not get mentioned. I have never witnessed a pageant where interview winner didn’t place well, and most of the time wins.I’m sure her parents were very upset, she worked very hard and was very good on stage, as were many others. When you walk off stage and suddenly remember you forgot to do your turns, etc. and come back and do it , you are not in top 10, but in this pageant you were.
I think The peanut pageant was conducted better when it was under the supervision of the chamber of com.
I was very disappoints and will not recommend this pageant to anyone again.
It is a very difficult decision for the judges to chose that is why there are guidelines to follow , the do’s and don’t count in this pageant too. I made sure I wrote their names down I don’t ever want them judging in a pageant I’m associated with.
The peanut pageant cost the parents of these little girls lots of money.
All of the girls were beautiful, yet those that should have be reconized for an outstanding job were not.
