A single-vehicle crash Friday night in Geneva County killed a local man.
Douglas Ryan Smith, 31, Slocomb, was traveling west in a 2008 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle when the vehicle ran off the road.
According to Alabama State Troopers spokesperson Kevin Cook, a preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling over the speed limit and that Smith, the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, attempted to bring the vehicle back on the road and lost control.
Cook said the truck rolled-over several times and ejected Smith from the vehicle.
The crash occurred at 7:45 p.m. about one mile west of Taylor on Geneva County Road 68.
The report indicates Smith was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by Geneva County Coroner Max Motley.
According to Cook, alcohol is believed to be a factor, and Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
