A Dothan firefighter sprays down a house on North Cherry St. Saturday morning.
A Dothan firefighter suffered a fractured leg while fighting a fire on North College Street this morning. The injury apparently occurred when an oxygen tank exploded during the flame.
He has been treated and released from a local hospital, but Dothan fire officials declined to release his name.
The fire was discovered at 10:23 a.m., according to Fire Department spokesman Chris Etheredge. At that point, heavy flames were visible in a duplex structure. Firemen were able to bring the flames under control. The duplex area from where the fire orginated appeared to be unoccupied, although it is believed personal oxygen tanks were stored there. The other duplex unit was occupied, but no one was injured.
Assistant Fire Marshal Bert Daum said a man was seen running away from underneath the house when firefighters arrived. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Dothan Fire officials and the Dothan Police Department.
