New gentlemen’s club to open near Country Crossing
A new gentlemen’s club is set to open near Country Crossing, but thanks to a new law, it will not be allowed to serve or allow people to drink alcohol.
Secrets Gentlemen’s Club will be located on U.S. Highway 231 South, not far from the location of Country Crossing.
However, the club hasn’t yet opened its doors, due to a law passed Aug. 21 that makes it illegal for strip clubs to serve or allow consumption of alcohol within 500 feet of their premises. Existing strip clubs were grandfathered in under the new law.
The club’s owner, Brad Nelson, originally planned to operate the club under a “bring your own beer” policy.
“My intentions were not to serve alcohol,” Nelson said. “I don’t know how this is going to go yet. My intentions were to go BYOB, and if this was going to be an issue, I don’t think they should have issued me a license. I have employees ready to go and work, and my attorneys are looking at the situation.”
The bill does allow existing clubs to continue to operate, but Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver said Nelson was granted his business license on Oct. 5, more than a month after the bill was passed.
“(BYOB) is illegal based on our law,” Culver said. “They can open as an adult entertainment place, but they can’t serve or allow the consumption of alcohol, regardless of whether it’s purchased there.”
Despite the alcohol issue, Nelson said he plans to open the club.
“I could open it as a juice bar,” he said. “I could’ve opened up this past Monday. I’m just waiting to see how things play out.”
The presence of an adult club near the Country Crossing development, which is being built as a family-friendly location, isn’t a concern to the county commission, according to Culver.
“I don’t see it affecting Country Crossing, but if they open illegally, we will take every action allowed by the law to make sure they meet the requirements of the law,” he said, adding that Secrets is the only new adult establishment he’s aware of in the county.
Nelson gave no timetable on when the club will open.

Oh and Sorry. . .I know you know who this is, so look me up by name. . life in the fast lane is YOUR elongated moniker!
Brad,
DARN good luck to you on this adventure my friend. I can’t believe there are some hypocritical lawmakers in Al. trying to make an issue out of this. Darn fools need to go back a few 100 yrs. when our lawmakers ran for position for LOVE OF COUNTRY instead of paycheck. With Alabama rapidly becoming the most obese state in our nation you’d think they’d have more to worry about other than whether or not people drink at a gentlemans club!!
Heck. . here in Denver we’ve legalized marijuana!!. . .Perhaps I should come down there, light up a fatty and break the place in. . LOL (just kiddin’, would put you in that situation friend).
Get in touch with me please. . look me up on Facebook! D. A. . . Life in the fast lane!!
I remember when my mother and aunt owned Jun-Mar Beauty Supply in Newton…we’d have women in there trying to preach about how sinful the lottery was and how they were so glad that the “lord” had seen fit to keep it out of Alabama…then on Saturday when my mom and aunt used to go to Florida, they would inevitably see some of those same preachy women down there buying their “sinful” lotto tickets…or they would see ‘em scratchin’ scratch offs at the Hardee’s down there they used to always go to…Those two old Yankee women used to laugh soooo hard over that…such hypocrisy…my mom and aunt weren’t no “born agains” but they were two of the finest noblest women you would ever wanna meet. If you are one of the sicko’s on here who believe they are going to h.e.l.l. because they bought a few lotto tickets in their lives, well, I feel sorry for your judgmental butts.
Why would you people want to believe in a “god” that is jealous and angry and vengeful and demands constant 24/7 praise? I mean, come on people…is “god’s” ego so fragile that everyone everywhere at every hour has to love him and worship him or they are going to h.e.l.l.?
I really feel sorry for you folks in a way…and yet, in another way, how nice it must be to have a scapegoat…to have a ready excuse whenever you do something “wrong” or “immoral” or cruel…“The devil made me do it” or my favorite when there is a natural disaster “It was God’s will”...
INSERT EYE ROLLING EMOTICON HERE…
i think i’ll go right across the fl line and open up a boobie bar. I think it would be very profitable. I could probably draw business from all the hypocrites in dothan that are so much against it.
gee its a spinoff business of country ceossing . houston county wanted it now they got it
I’ll buy a 10 dollar ticket for that wrestling match !!
Looks like some of the people trashing the employees of these places forgot some of the things from their “Owners Manual”
1. Let those among you who are without sin cast the first stone.
2. Judge not lest ye be judged.
You were given free choice in Genesis when you were told don’t eat from the tree of life.
You are free to warn me but I have free will and I will choose. And you are not clean enough to stone me for that choice.
And if you judge me then you will be paid back in spades.
Hi Heartbroken and patriot.gyrl.65! Would you two ladies consider settling this score at one of the clubs on 231? I would pay no less than $ 10 to see you two mud wrestle and most of us guys don’t mind a few extra pounds.
Heartbroken, you could bring your stone tablets with the ten commandments and patriot.gyrl.65 could bring the chips on her shoulder to serve to the hungry customers.
This is the whole point of draught (draft) beer being served. We men are more forgiving after a sip or two of the devil’s brew.
patriot.gyrl.65..We’ll I certainly would rather believe in the bible than the constitution. Because the constitution has gone to the pits.People are saying we can’t pray in school(it’s against our constitution)etc. Now that’s what I call malarkey. If your total trust is in the government,I feel sorry for you.
wpierce- ok you may have got me there. maybe i’m using poor choice of words to say what i mean. if you will reread my post i was trying to say what people do with their lives is their choice and their business if that’s what they want to do. i wasn’t trying to say these girls were bad. i’m sure they are some of the nicest girls you could ever meet. it’s just my opinion that taking your clothes off like that is disrespecting yourself but what they do is none of my business. i was just stating my opinion. again i wasn’t trying to offend anybody and if i did i’m sorry. like i said maybe i used a poor choice of words.
