This year’s National Peanut Festival has come and gone, and now the festival’s president can look back on the ups and downs of the previous week.

According to President George Jeffcoat, the festival saw an increase in attendance over last year’s, a fact he attributes to a combination of value deals and new attractions.

“It’s been a successful year, slightly up from last year,” Jeffcoat said shortly after the midway opened for the final time Sunday. “I think one thing that helped us is it’s reasonable entertainment close to home, which we tried to stress early in the season. We had lot of specials this year, like $10 Tuesday and several armband specials. We also had the Peanut Pavilion, an educational sampling area where we had peanut-related products to sample every night. That was a hit for a lot of people.”

Another aspect that separated this year’s festival came as a result of the carnival company, Reithoffer Shows.

“I think the rides were the biggest difference,” Jeffcoat said. “We’ve got some bigger rides, some of the faster rides, (and) the young people have been commenting on those. Sometimes (in the past) we’ve had two or three of the same rides, but this year, we didn’t have as many duplicate rides as we’ve had in the past. The ferris wheel had an LED light package on it this year, which put on a light show, and that aspect was real popular.”

One of the biggest attractions at the festival every year is the amount of arts and crafts exhibits, and this year wa sno different.

“A lot of folks just came out for the food and to see the exhibits,” Jeffcoat said. “We’ve always had a lot of community support with the arts and crafts as well as the livestock exhibits.”

Of course, the entire festival didn’t go off without a hitch.

According to Jeffcoat, parking and pedestrian traffic issues need to be addressed next year.

“We’ve had some problems with our parking lots, and our arts and crafts people have had some problems getting in through the crowd,” he said. “We’re gonna make some improvements on that for people trying to get their stuff in and out of here. We’ve had a lot of ideas going on about how we can improve, and we’re gonna sit down the first of the year with each committee and try to figure out what we can do to make the whole thing better.”

The festival was great. I have lived here all of my life and I haven’t missed one yet!

I’m not black, I am a white so called yankee who was tormented for being a white dam yankee who wasn’t racist…I was 12 when I first moved here and people like you treated me and my mother like crappola…
You weren’t raised to be racist?  Man, that’s a joke.
How many Black friends DO you have?
Do you “let” your Black “friends” use the bathroom at your house?  Well then you can’t be a racist, eh?
Go to bed old man, you bother me.

I only stated the facts.
I was not raised to be racist, however, after years of hearing the “poor me, ya’ll owe me” syndrome, it tends to make you lean toward being racist. You all quite whining and we won’t be racist.
Can you take a bus load with you!?!?

Guess you shouldn’t make racist statements then you wouldn’t have to worry about your comments being removed.

You know, I hear Cottonwood has a gathering place for your kind…tell me are you a card carrying member of that venerable institution, or do you just follow them online…I mean we all know that the Klan is only around to protect the southern culture and heritage…I mean WHITE southern culture and heritage(insert eye rolling emoticon AGAIN)...
Some of you folks just never cease to amaze me in your prejudice and ignorance.
Kinda sad in a sick twisted kinda way.
But your sickness won’t be my problem much longer…I will be out of here by this time next year…
Like I said before…I will be glad to get back to America…the Confederacy stinks.

Well, well, I guess my comment was offensive to someone.  It has been removed.
Again I ask, were the “Maidens from Mobile” left out of the parade because they were offensive to a black man last year!?!? The Maidens were a very pretty part of the parade and should be included every year.
When are we going to quite “catering” to their every whim??
I was offended by the all black band and dance team from Barbour County High School at an area football game recently, but I did not call the school and tell them. It was one of the most vulgar routines I have ever seen!! But I figured if the students wanted to stoop that low and act like a bunch of gyrating sex objects, let them do it.  They didn’t get much applause from the home team.
I think I wall call the school now.

So did you break their legs and stuff when they didn’t pay?
Or did you just demand their first born son as an indentured servant?
You may have a lot of “stuff”, but I bet your family hates you…probably loves your money(if they can find it buried out back in the yard, of course…stuffed in the walls of your house and such)...but I bet they are just counting down the years to when they won’t have to deal with such a hateful insecure old jerk anymore.
Have a nice day…NOT.

Army, you must be one of those idiots that borrows money to go to the peanut festival? Why else would you take such offense to the facts? I didn’t hold a gun to their heads and make them borrow money to ride a farris wheel.I took a big change to loan money to people of their caliber.

Thank goodness you are out of business
living your profitable, pitiful, and pathetic old life. The only idiot and fool you have to deal with now is in the mirror. You lived you entire life taking from others and now you laugh at your crimes. Your time is coming and it will not be anything to laugh about. Sorry.

I just wonder how many idiots went and borrowed money to go . Back when i loaned money , this was one of my most profitable times of the year. Fools come borrow 500 to 1000 bucks to go to the peanut festival. Back then i could get 18-20% interest and 50 bucks doc. fee up front on a 3 month note. I laughed at what idiots they were .
