Years of requests, months of work lead to improvements at two Ozark intersections

OZARK - Barrels were removed and traffic was moving smoothly after the completion of road work at two Ozark intersections, according to officials.
Ozark Police Chief Tony Spivey said traffic lights were in full service Friday at the intersection of U.S. 231, South Union Avenue and Lakeview Road, near Gilland Chevrolet GMC.
“Do Not Enter” signs and other road work is also completed at the 231 and Camilla Avenue intersection to prevent drivers from turning left from the street onto the highway, Spivey said.
Dale County High School Head Football Coach Todd Horne was killed and four others injured at the Camilla intersection in July 2008 when a vehicle crossing the highway from Camilla collided with Horne’s vehicle, which was traveling southbound on the highway.
Spivey said most collisions on 231 took place near the Gilland intersection and were caused by drivers with low visibility who pulled from South Union Avenue or Lakeview Road into oncoming traffic.
A number of speeding tickets were given during the installation process but residents have responded well since the project’s completion, he said.
“That was truly a dangerous intersection so to have it fully functioning with a traffic light is something we had looked forward to,” he said.
Spivey said the left turn off Camilla onto the highway was cut off because of low visibility as well. But the median was not closed completely, as city leaders had initially requested.
“From my understanding the left turn was deemed the only one where there was very low visibility because of the hill there,” he said.
Resident Kathy Griggs said she was thankful for both of the road projects.
“At South Union, you have a lot of people that go to (Enterprise-Ozark Community College) and have to come through that intersection to get there. Sometimes it was dangerous to cross,” she said.
“The change at Camilla needed to be there.  It’s just sad that it may have taken someone losing their life to fix it.”

pittbull, a mind is a terrible thing to waste and you have obiously wasted yours.  I never defended the driver killed in the accident by wal mart.  What I did (like many others) was call you out on your stupid comments about the accident.  Everyone that read your comments knows you for what you are… an idiot, so do us all a favor and go snuggle up to your dog.

what does my pride have to do with anything about this article?

ya know, it takes all kinds, and i guess you (BMOC) are the type that will complain about anything and everything. i do feel sorry for those who are around you. all this negative energy just makes for a bad disposition all around.

yes, i am still thankful for the light at the intersection. God gave everyone common sense, some folks don’t seem to use it. no one guaranteed there would never be another accident at this intersectin. DUH!!! a light does not eliminate accidents, if they did, dothan would never have any accidents. how many near misses has this light helped to avoid? you don’t know, neither do i. but i am not going to find fault with the light!

Well the light is up and working and guess what?  Thats right, ANOTHER accident.  LOL.  Like I said before, a traffic light will do nothing to improve these idiots driving skills.  A Concerned Mom should be real proud of herself.  She was right, its not about the drivers, its about the accidents.  LOL.  Some people are just plain stupid.

please note: in my opinion, “Jim Crow” is a chicken——for not answering my question or responding to what was said about his remarkd…how typical…sorry about not staying on topic…I am so-o-o tired of people like this

The entire point of the whole article, to me was to point out the wanton wastefulness of the Ozark city government. I have NEVER had a problem with either intersection and I was 61/62 years old the last time I used either intersection. Or last December, early January. I deliberately called out “JIM CROW” because his post naming me made me very uncomfortable and was completly out of line, as were his insinuations directed at patriotgirl (sorry for incorrectly spelling your handle). his attitude and his mis directed and inappropriate comments should have been what you were upset about. Would you like it if someone called you a name or put your given name up here without asking you? I am for a number of reasons which, admittedly, have nothing to do with the thread

most of you missed the entire point of the article. this has NOTHING TO DO WITH RACISM, OR WHO DID WHAT OR WHO DID NOT DO WHAT OR WHO LIVES WHERE!!!
It has to do with some folks believe the lights were needed and some folks did not see where the need was. I hate to admit that only a couple of posts on here are about the actual article. the rest of you went into left field and eventually left the part altogether. get back to the subject matter.

i am glad for it, BMOC did not agree with me. nor did lineville. at least we kept to the subject matter. that is our opinions and we have a right to those opinions. i do not believe we insulted each other racially, ethnically or in any other way. stick to the subject or don’t post.

For Jim Crow…I know all about people in your neck of the woods..more than I want to, in fact, which is ONE reason I chose not to stay there…a much more loving open relationship with my daughter prompted me to come to where I am now, and I am much happier because I can say what I am thinking/feeling, without being chastised/shut out for it…and I am no longer lonely for family. I know fully well I am no longer in Virginia, living there cost me more than you know, but so did coming back to Alabama. Knowing what I know now, I would have chosen to remain in Virginia!
