The people of Dothan have been fortunate to have world-class players leading the city’s Department of Leisure Services. Under the guidance of former director Jim Oates, the city’s recreational programs and facilities grew exponentially.

Bridge repairs to close portion of Denton Road Friday

Lotto needed for schools
I’m upset that we are always cutting back on our schools. We have people from Alabama going either to the Georgia or Florida state lines once or twice a week to buy Lotto tickets that is funding school systems in those states while ours are always getting cut some way or another.
Don’t blame truck driver
The article, “Man Dies in Circle Crash,” on the front page on March 14 leaves the impression at a quick read that this is another case of a truck driver at fault for killing another person in a car. Way down in the middle it says that his uncle failed to yield the right-of-way and pulled out in front of the tractor-trailer.

I noticed in the March 14 Dothan Eagle that, according to your reporter’s estimate, 50 people showed up at a protest against bingo at the proposed country music park.
Our view: Double-dipping ban
With experience as an official elected to both the Alabama Legislature and the state board of education, Bradley Byrne seemed an obvious choice to ferret out corruption in state’s postsecondary education system. He appears to have done a good job so far, and he hasn’t pulled any punches.
