Improve schools? Yes, we can!

No great idea ever sprang forth fully formed. No great accomplishment ever occurred with a flash and a flourish. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and the Book of Genesis reports that the Creator shaped the earth and heavens over six days, then rested.
So don’t expect Dothan’s public school system to be transformed into a shining example of academic and disciplinary excellence overnight. Hyper-accelerated change only occurs in sitcoms with roughly 22 minutes to get a story line across.
However, Dothan City Schools has never had a better climate for transformation. Through a focused initiative called “Yes, We Can! Dothan,” school officials and more than 1,000 residents have gathered in dozens of meetings over the last few months, working to determine what our public schools should be.
The enthusiasm of school board members and — more importantly — volunteers and other concerned residents gives this initiative a great opportunity for success.
We hope the momentum continues.
