Letter: Tanning and cancer

For years, dermatologists have suspected that tanning beds pose a threat to healthy skin. Now we have irrefutable data.

Letter: Bipartisanship needed

Whatever happened to good old-fashioned patriotism?

Letter: ‘No to all bailouts’

My advice to the politicians is to keep their hands off this issue.

Letter: ‘This is nuts’

I do believe our politicians have gone way too far in dictating what we can and cannot do.

Letter: Seeing the light

The only thing that saved the aircraft and the people aboard was the people on board. The FBI, CIA, Homeland Security and the system did nothing to protect the people.

Letter: ‘Democrats lack the stomach to fight and win wars’

Do we need to use civil judicial terms to describe a non-US citizen with 3 foot flames shooting out of his underwear while trying to repeat another 9/11? What’s “alleged” about that? He did it.

Letter: Traffic woes at Country Crossing

Placing cars at a full stop and hoping for a smooth transition onto a busy highway in a 10-foot turning arc is asking for trouble.

‘They never get enough’

There they go again, the yearly cry from those bottomfeeding educators.

Letter: Seeking a police chief

Do I correctly understand City Manager Mike West is so inept he must rely on personnel from outside the city of Dothan to make a selection for chief of police?

Letter: Traffic signal needed at Country Crossing

In the Dec. 28 front-page Dothan Eagle article, the statement that “officials say they are working together to closely monitor traffic statistics in the area of Country Crossing and to add a traffic light signal soon” comes much too late.

Letter: On the ‘holiday’ furor

Last December, The American Legion magazine wished everyone “Happy Holidays” in big letters on the front cover. A couple of months later, it published several letters complaining about the greeting.

Letter: Supports Gov. Riley

After reading the Dec. 11 headline, “Florida oranges have become sticky subject for Riley,” I’m bewildered. How can any sane person compare outright gambling (complete with crime, corruption, and vice) to a friendly wager of oranges versus ribs?

Letter: No tax on bingo

My attention was captured with the Dec. 12 article on bingo in which state Sen. Roger Bedford (D-Russellville) is quoted as saying, “I think we ought to tax it and regulate it.”ffffffffffffffffffffff

Letter: Buy local

It is my recollection that the departed police chief was recruited from out of state. It puts me in mind of Homer and Jethro’s song, “I looked the world over and finally found true love; then she found another and pfft, she was gone.”

Erosion of industry

Looking back over the last 30 years of the Dothan Eagle archives, you can clearly see that Dothan’s manufacturing base has been slowly eroding.

Letter: Porn-free lodging

Permit me to add another voice to the chorus to do more to clean up America and rid our nation of the evil of pornography.

Letter: On Country Crossing

“Cha-ching!” I laughed out loud.

Letter: Lottery prohibition is ‘a stupid law’

This is still the United States of America and those of us who spent a great deal of time defending those rights will do whatever we wish with the funds we earned.

Letter: Politics and reason

If we’re right-wing, does that mean the far left is the wrong wing?

December 01, 2009

Letter: One sure thing

Casinos (bingo) are designed to raise income for the sponsor; in the long run they always win because of set odds — the player is gambling, but the house is not. Get it?

Letter: Does Sarah Palin matter?

She ran for office and she lost, just like thousands of aspiring politicians before her. End of story.

Letter: Upset by story

Why doesn’t the Eagle get on board with the problem of bullies and try to help solve this problem?

November 25, 2009

Letter: Hitting the nail on the head

If people are going to gamble when they really cannot afford to do so, then they will also spend their money elsewhere, such as on booze, drugs, sleazy clubs or many other options that are available to people willing to waste their last dollar instead of spending it wisely — bingo or no bingo!

Letter: Have we learned nothing?

You would think that Wile E. Coyote was president of the United States.

Letter: Thankful for Sarah Palin

She has the wholehearted support of such anti-America figures as Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter.

Letter: Betting on Palin

You said that you would wager that Palin will soon go quietly into obscurity. I’ll take your bet.

November 24, 2009

Letter: Missing Grizzard

Who is today’s Lewis Grizzard? And perhaps more important, wherefore art thou, brother? I could use an occasional respite from this smothering.

Letter: Life is a gamble

You don’t realize it, but everything that you do is a gamble.

November 22, 2009

Letter: An unconscionable tax

Many people feel that they are entitiled to whatever income they get, but conversely, whatever taxes they are required to pay are too much.

Letter: Musings on Sarah Palin; terrorism

I once stated that Sarah Palin was an ignorant bumpkin. I stand corrected. I meant to say that Sarah Palin was Richard M. Nixon reincarnated into the body of a attractive woman.
