Clinic was a success
Many thanks to the volunteer lawyers, support staff, law enforcement and fire department personnel who assisted with the recent Wills for Heroes clinic. Special commendation is owed to City Manager Mike West and the Dothan City Commission for allowing the Houston County Bar Association the use of space in the Dothan Civic Center to conduct the clinic.More than 45 local attorneys and staff members prepared wills, powers of attorney and living wills during the two-day clinic. As a result of this effort, approximately 25 percent of the eligible members of local law enforcement departments had these important documents prepared at no charge.
Due to the overwhelming response, I anticipate the clinic will return on an annual or twice-annual basis. I encourage those eligible personnel who weren’t able to participate this time to take advantage of the next clinic.
The mission statement of the Alabama State Bar is “Lawyers Render Service.” I hope that this small gesture lets the community know that Houston County lawyers live up to their profession’s mission.
