More information sought on Country Crossing
The recent front-page article in the Eagle certainly cast a positive light on the proposed Country Crossing complex designed to rival Branson, Mo. This may well be a project of great benefit to Houston County and the surrounding area.I do think local taxpayers should have information regarding few points not well covered in the article: What are the results of market research done with respect to the likely success of this project?
In the Q&A part of the article, Houston County’s obligations are described as “unclear.” Unclear implies, to me, a cordless bungee jump into the abyss of uncertainty. I think we need more financial data. What are the probable upfront costs to local taxpayers? What are the limits to taxpayer exposure if the project is unsuccessful?
This letter is not intended to disparage the proposed undertaking. I just don’t think any potential downside was well explored. Perhaps the Eagle staff can do some investigative reporting on the topic.
