Beer and bingo
Published: June 24, 2009
I can’t believe our great governor, who is such a Christian, can sign a bill for stronger beer to be sold in restaurants and bars.
The limit went from 6 percent to 13.9 percent by volume. What kind of message is he sending to the young people of our state?
Gov. Bob Riley was too much of a Christian to sign a bill for bingo. So when all these drunks get on the road and kill our people, thank the governor for putting stronger beer on the shelves in stores and in bars and restaurants.
But look at it this way — those who drink this stronger beer will go to heaven; the people who play bingo will go to hell.

Francis Hand,
While you can certainly have your opinion, you definitely a misconception about beer.
Most people won’t like the taste of the stronger beers anyway because they are so use to the swill they’ve been forced to drink in the state of Alabama for so many years.
I presently live in Arizona, due to an extended project for my job. While in Alabama, in order to get good tasting beer, we often ordered beer kits and brewed our own, because it was so much better.
Those of you that have never ventured beyond the borders of the state don’t have a clue… there’s a REAL world out there.
In some countries, like Germany, Ireland, Scotland, and Austria, beer is very much a part of their culture.
When I first got out here, I visited a Walmart. I decided to check out the beer section. As I was going down the isle, and suddenly I got a warm fuzzy, because on the same isle, were rows and rows of liquor… imagine that! Liquor sold in a grocery store… and on Sunday!!!
Why oh Why would I want to return to a backwards thinking state like Alabama?
10 minutes from my home I have a choice of 3 Casinos…
But, back to the beer…
Stronger beer is usually a heavier, thicker, more hearty beer. You can’t drink nearly as much as the light swill, budweiser, miller, and coors.
The cost is often upwards of $6 - $8 a bottle.
Alabama is the only state where you cannot purchase 98 of the top 100 beers.
I’ll let you in on a little tidbit so you won’t get your panties in a wad so quickly. Raising the alcohol content is only half the battle. You see, most of the micro-brews (that’s what the good beers are called) are packaged in 22 oz bottles. Alabama still has a law on the books that limits the size of the containers to 16ozs. (the ONLY state with a container limit).
Don’t worry about the kids. When I was a kid, we couldn’t afford a lot of liquor, so we would by Everclear at 190 proof… that goes a lonnnnngggg way.
Oh yeah…
And Chimay White is MADE by Roman Catholic monks who believe in the same god in which you supposedly believe. So anybody thinking about submitting a rebuttal better do his/her research on beer and the history of it first…
PS-If you don’t like the new beer laws then don’t drink it… hahaha <—-[devilish grin]
What an effin’ idiot! Just because a beer is stronger doesn’t mean it makes you drunker! You just don’t have to drink as much beer to get drunk… And also don’t forget that Jager is 35%, Vodka is 40%, Wild Turkey is 50.5%, Bacardi 151 is 75.5%, and Everclear is 95%. So who gives a sheet if the beer alcohol limit goes from 6% to 14%???
Also,
Beer with more alcohol costs more money, and most people are not willing to pull out that extra to few bucks to get that extra 4%. Natural Light 4.2% ABV = $6.00 per 12 pack. Chimay White 8.0% ABV = $8.00 per 4 pack. Only avid beer drinkers will buy this.
It is all about money, nothing else. With stronger beer more sales more tax revenue. Not to mention more drunks more arrest more money from court cost not to mention more lost people.
Yes it is ok to sell more beer stronger beer that takes the money from some of the same people that may want to play bingo. I do not drink smoke or do illegal drugs, but yes I do say a cuss word at times.
I don’t know about the rest of you but I sure would rather meet some that has lost all there money playing Bingo than have lost all there money on beer and alcohol.
I have watched the history of the world and in it Moses came off the mountain with fifteen commandments. He dropped one tablet leaving him with the two tablets that only included the now famous 10. Since you have only recovered 3 of the missing 5 I think I have been able to find the last 2. #14 resist all those amongst you who bring opportunity for they are evil and living in a community that seeks to thrive is sinful. #15 Preach hate and unforgiveness towards those who do not agree with your agenda and bring about a state where those of the not sharing your views are stoned.
Dear Sirs,
You Southerners surprise me.
What redneck would drink “white lightening” when he could drink English Tea?

Atta’ girl Frances. Kudos to you and others in agreement with your article. For Ed. Childress, I believe one legend has Moses descending from the mount carrying 3 tablets with 5 commandments each. While approaching his followers he spoke saying that he had received 15 command…when he dropped one of the tablet which broke and fast thinking, he instead said 10 commandments. Now, I finally know the contents of the missing 5 commandments. Thank you.
Thank you Frances for reminding us of those little known extra three Commandments that must have been on a table that was mistakenly left on the mountain when Moses came down:
11. Thou shalt not play bingo.*
12. Thou shalt not drink beer over 6% ABV.**
13. Thou shall make laws that will prevent people (to whom I have given free will) from having a choice on matters that some consider sinful.
*You will go straight to he11 if you break this one.
**Will not prevent you from going to heaven.
Dear Mrs. Hand,
the weak beer companies did not donate millions to rileys campaign therefor he was able to support a stronger beer… ; )
Way to go Frances!!! That is the point we all are trying to make to our wonderful Governor but he can’t see the light.
