Double standard

I fully agree with your Feb. 4 editorial entitled “Taxing our patience.” Two of President Obama’s picks for high-level positions have withdrawn their nominations because of failure to pay taxes.

You noted, “Avoiding tax liability is no big deal in some circles,” and wondered if former Sen. Tom Daschle would have paid his back taxes and interest if he had not been seeking another political office. I would bet against it.

Folks in high places seem to think it is OK and even moral to avoid paying their fair share of taxes.

Ordinary citizens would have to wonder why Timothy Geitner’s nomination to be Secretary of the Treasury was not withdrawn when it became known he had failed to pay some of his taxes. We also have to wonder why he was confirmed to this office that is responsible for collecting taxes from ordinary citizens.

But, you have to remember the U.S. Senate that confirmed him has such a lack of morality they recently gave a standing ovation to Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) after he was convicted of multiple felonies.

Unfortunately, it’s not only those seeking high office in political circles who get preferential treatment by the law. We have seen the slap on the hand given to Hollywood starlets. We have also seen the lack of interest in prosecuting hate radio figure Rush Limbaugh because of his use of illegal drugs. If Rush were a poor black kid caught using these drugs, he would be rotting in prison instead of making millions because of his ability to influence weak-minded people.

You had me going, until that last paragraph. You took a relevant issue and just couldn’t avoid the liberal mudslinging at the end. I know you can’t help it, but there are editing tools on your computer that can help. “Backspace”, “Delete”, and even “Recycle Bin.“

I agree that the elite, elitists in this country think laws are mere suggestion and educated lawyers and judges somehow forget their first year law classes and therefore let it all slide.

But Mr. Hess, you lost so much credibility and i think, respect, for attacking such an easy target despite so many Democrats that have done far worse for our country than challenge us to think for ourselves and hold slacking politicians accountable.

Did ya notice i made a valid point without an attack or insulting the intelligence of the people that will read this? See, it can be done, even by a liberal.

Mr Hess

You are so disingenuous I am laughing until my sides are pure hurting.  I can always count on you to be as fair and balanced as is MSNBC not to mention the lack of common sense.  The vast majority of the audience who listens to Rush are educated, intelligent and articulate ,we glady take in and analyze his intellectual commentary. Very seldom do I ever hear someone on your side of political spectrum make intelligble, reasoned and reasonably sensible arguments.

While I do agree with you that the “privliged” feel as though laws do not apply to them, I cant help but be annoyed that you just cant help but throw some mud at any convervative target, I am surprise that somehow you didnt blame George Bush, but I guess that will be another article.

Mr. Hess, you left out left wing HBO Hate talk show host Bill Maher…  He openly admits to illegal drug use and promotes legalization of all drugs…  He is a real peach too…
