Letter: Put it to a vote
Published: October 15, 2009
I am sick and tired of the U.S. Congress passing bills against the wishes of the overwhelming majority of citizens. They violate the law of representative government. They follow the dictates of their Party and lobbyists. We need a major change in lawmaking. Here is a solution.
Back in 1776, when the founding fathers set up the powers of government, communication involved letters and speeches. In 2009, we live in a “computer” age. Information technology has exploded to where a child can communicate with the world holding a Blackberry while walking to the school bus. Why not permit the general public to vote directly on major issues in Washington?
Going back to the Iraq war, I know the majority of Americans would not have voted for the war. Concerning the health care bill, let the people decide its fate. That way, it takes out the selfish congressman, the lobbyist, and the corrupt Speaker of the House from imposing their misguided will.
All major legislation costing more than $100 billion should be voted on directly by the people. They would go to their computer, punch in their social security numbers and vote. The greedy congressmen have no say in it. Going further, passing a balance budget amendment would further handcuff these blood-sucking bastards.

The problem with direct voting is that would be a dmocracy and the founders greatly feared democracies as they always end in tyranny of the majority, without minority rights. They have always ended in corruption.
