Letter: The problem with porn
Published: November 3, 2009
I feel that I am only one of many who applaud our Houston County commissioners for passing the alcohol consumption law which, hopefully, will prevent the so-called “gentlemen’s” club from darkening the minds of men in our area , as well as the Southern gateway into our city.
In the Oct. 29 Dothan Eagle alone, residents continued to read about the horrific rape here in our area committed by an officer of the law and about a 66-year-old South Carolina deputy assistant attorney general caught on his lunch break with an 18-year-old stripper and various other paraphernalia in his SUV.
These news items are on the heels of recent reports of teenage gang rapes and sexual assault on children. Establishments such as “Secrets” provide fuel to a growing fire that is consuming not just men, but destroying women, families and innocents.
If you look a little deeper, you will also realize that because of pornography and its associated consequences and addictions, all of us suffer increased healthcare costs due to the spread of disease and amazingly higher crime rates committed by young people with absent fathers.
Does anyone else here in the Wiregrass desire to support our elected officials in ridding at least these cancers we can see from our community?
Please let your voice be heard.

I am sure whatever Susie does, is better than what you do.
(eye rolling emoticon)
susie exactly what do you do to make a living?
Patriot.gyrl, You are right! I guess that was the wrong choice of words to use. Please except my apology. I did not mean that Strippers were not decent human beings. I believe that we all do what we do to make our way in this life and we all do the best we can. It is not important what job we have and I sure don’t want to judge.
As for taking care of my man, I don’t consider it any kind of “WORK’ at all. It is my pleasure.
I do think we should be alittle more compassionate about people with disabilities, individuals that need help and are less fortunate than we are, before being so selfish and worrying about “ONLY ME”
I;m kinda partial to strip clubs myself
I’m kinda tired of paying taxes to educate someone elses kids too. Its not my job either.
So susieQ…you are saying that dancers are not decent human beings?
What gives you the right to judge them?
If you don’t like what they do, don’t go watch them.
But make sure that you take care of your “homework” or it’s a sure bet your man will.
Get off your high horse SusieQ.
You ain’t no better than anyone else.
You may be better OFF, better never better THAN.
You “resent people who have no problem with nudity/strip clubs, etc but could care less about decent human beings.“
I resent people like you who deem it necessary to place value on people’s lives…it is not your job to judge anyone…
wpierce is also the one tired of paying taxes that help the public schools because he owns so much property and hes tired of supporting other peoples kids. Dont forget that either.
Well, Well WPIERCE…..since you have so much compassion for “Gentlemens Clubs” and you wish they could be “all Nude” Why don’t you just put them inside those fences of that 200 acres you own!!! Nice to hear that you have compassion for STRIP CLUBS AND NUDE WOMEN but don’t have any compassion at all for where the Intellectually disabled live as long as they don’t live by you! (RE: Dothan residents object Group Home)
I am a REAL WOMAN and NOT INSECURE at all, and I do not resent strip clubs. What I do resent is people like you who have no problem with nudity/strip clubs, etc but could care less about decent human beings.
I have been reading with interest the discussion concerning the “Gentleman’s Club” to be located on US231 South. Having relocated form the Miami, South Florida area a few years ago and because I have spent a number of years…“working in the business”...I can say, with a high degree of confidence, that the Wiregrass Area does not have sufficient talent, available, to support a true “Gentleman’s Club. This is a serious and basic flaw in the business plan.
Hypothetical Situation: Two you men from, say, St.Louis are passing through the “Wiregrass” on their way to, maybe, Tampa or South Florida. They are sitting at a bar on Clearwater Beach the next afternoon. They say: We were in the worst “Gentleman’s Club” up in South Alabama. First of all, they told us at the door that we had to bring our own beer and said the Shell Station, “just over yonder”, has beer. So we went across the highway and got some beer. (Sounds like “Porky’s II already) Then, we sat at the bar and a young lady walked by and I said to Jimmy, “Jimmy, does that girl really have a thong on?“
I know it’s about the money, but, let us be real. The club is located in a concrete bunker near what will be a tourist destination. Let us not take any more concrete and specific steps to embarrass ourselves to visitors and people passing through.
Well…Bada Bing…Thanks for your time.
I feel like if someone wants to go a bar or a strip bar then that is their business. I feel like the government is just trying keep everyone from enjoying themselves. I have no problem with a woman making her living as a dancer. I know many girls dance just to put themselves thru college. Dancing on a stage isn’t porn its just a entertainment.
