War chest options

Although I do agree charity may be a good choice, I wonder if U.S. Rep. Terry Everett would consider establishing a foundation to be used for scholarships to area colleges instead of giving to the candidates seeking the position from which he is retiring.

It seems to me this would be a better distribution of Mr. Everett’s campaign funds, as it would better serve the people of the district that helped elect him to the position of U.S. congressman in the first place. Surely this must be one of the options of the federal campaign finance laws as our neighboring state of Florida’s retired U.S. congressman, Earl Hutto, put what he had left in his campaign funds into a foundation, which was incorporated under the laws of Florida.

He continues to add to the foundations with proceeds from golf tournaments. Through the funds generated, scholarships have been established at Pensacola Junior College, the University of West Florida, Okaloosa-Walton College, Gulf Coast Community College, Troy University and Baptist College of Florida.
