Why continue in Iraq?

I am appalled at the cheering crowd who received the Pan Am bomber in Libya. It validates the hate issue that all Arabs have for Americans.

So why do Americans die in Iraq for a people who hate us in the first place? At least when we died in Vietnam, the South Vietnamese loved us.

But we must give credit to the rebellious generation of Americans who demonstrated in the streets and marched on Washington to end the war.

President Nixon gave up and surrendered the war, much to our relief.

What did we gain in Vietnam? Nothing, except that we didn’t have to rebuild the country and it saved our treasury the huge cost.

Dr. Robert McNamara, the secretary of defense who led us to war in Vietnam, admitted before his death that it was the biggest mistake of his life to interfere with a civil war in Vietnam. Does this ring a bell in today’s world?

Why can’t our politicians learn from our mistakes?

We must withdraw all troops from Iraq and Afghanistan immediately. Let them have their civil wars. But still leave aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean to intercept any threats.

When the dust settles from the civil wars, negotiate with the winners. However, I think the only way to convince Washington to end the wars is to demonstrate with a million angry citizens marching to the Capitol steps.

Then impeach the president and the house speaker.
