Auburn radio looking for new home
As of Thursday, Auburn football fans in Dothan won’t be able to listen to their beloved Tigers on local radio.
But Auburn Network officials are working to rectify the situation and hope to have a resolution in time for the Tigers’ game Saturday.
Auburn was being carried by WRJM 93.7 FM, but the station has gone into bankruptcy state and has been cut off the air.
The station is currently in the process of being purchased by The Radio People. It will likely be switched to a news talk format and its frequence will change to 105.3 FM when it returns to the air.
However, Ron Eubanks, general manager of the Radio People, said the group doesn’t plan to pick up the Auburn broadcasts. Instead, they have contracted with Fox Sports Radio for Saturday programming.
Auburn play-by-play announcer Rod Bramlett said Thursday afternoon that the Auburn Network was trying to find another radio station to carry the games.
“We do realize the issues with WRJM and that they will no longer carry Auburn broadcasts,” Bramlett said. “We are in the process of talking to other stations in the Dothan market.”
Bramlett was hopeful the Network would be able to have a new station for Auburn’s game Saturday morning against Southern Miss.
Only three other Wiregrass stations — WESZ 98.7 in Abbeville, WTBF 970 AM in Troy and WAAO 103.7 FM in Andalusia — broadcast Auburn games, but none hit the Dothan area.
