Auburn’s Jay Jacobs seems more comfortable
The time Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs spent with members of the Dothan-area media last week was a wise move. In the half-hour I sat down with him in the radio studio, he was candid and believable.

Paramore column: SEC West predictions
On the eve of the SEC Media Days opening in Birmingham, here’s the as-promised look at how this scribe feels the league’s West Division will play out. One note: Don’t just scan the numbers beside each team. I see a three-way tie at the top.

Paramore column: Chizik deserves a fair chance
In slightly more than two months, Gene Chizik will field his first Auburn football team when the Tigers take on Louisiana Tech at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Appeal isn’t right step
Much of the hoopla surrounding Alabama’s punishment from the NCAA over the textbook scandal has died down. It appears it will remain that way. That is, unless the Crimson Tide administration elects to bring it up again.

Kiffin has UT in spotlight
It was interesting to note the same day the nation’s newspaper, USA Today, ran a story on Tennessee’s controversial new coach Lane Kiffin, the school had to issue a statement to cover yet another mistake Kiffin’s staff made in abiding by NCAA recruiting rules.

True or not, Selig should take note
I am the first to admit it. Sometimes the media picks out a whipping boy and goes to work like a pack of sharks in a blood-soaked pool. Fair or not, accurate or not, makes no difference. The brethren of the fourth estate just decide to devour them.
