Northview basketball teams rout Rehobeth; high school/middle school b-ball roundup

Northview bounced back from its season-opening loss to rout Rehobeth 74-40 Tuesday night at the Cougar gym.
Florida State verbal commitment Xavier Gibson scored 25 points, grabbed six rebounds and had three blocked shots to lead the Cougars, who lost at Barbour County Saturday.
Joe Coachman added 22 points and Zach Kelley eight.
Rehobeth (0-1) was led by James Cummings with 19 points and Anthony McBryde with 14.
Northview girls 91, Rehobeth 17: All six available players scored for Northview in the rout of Rehobeth.
Haley Williams had a career-high 32 points to lead Northview (2-0), which had to play only six because of a couple of injuries.
Alannah Vincent earned 28 points and Kacey Frazier had a double-double of 18 points and 18 rebounds.
Gloria Dubose led Rehobeth with nine points.
Kinston girls 41, New Brockton 35: Kinston opened its season with a win as Casey Dean had 17 points, Ashley McCall nine and Marika Whitehurst nine.
For New Brockton, Whitney Brantley had nine points, Monica Largess eight and Kayla Purvis seven.
Taylor Road boys 91, Abbeville Christian 70: Tommy Wojtala scored 34 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Generals lost their opener.
Chase Smith had 16 points and Rusty Champion and Dillon Wilson eight each. Wilson also had five rebounds.
Abbeville Christian girls 42, Taylor Road 36 (OT): Anna Purcell scored four of her eight points in overtime, lifting the Lady Generals to a season-opening victory.
ACA rallied in the final two minutes, overcoming an eight-point deficit, to force the overtime. The teams were tied at 35 after regulation then the Lady Generals outscored the Lady Tigers 7-1 behind Purcell’s output.
Molly Murphy led ACA overall with 13 points. Shelby Spivey earned a team-high eight rebounds.
Deborah Smart had 16 points to lead Taylor Road.
Ashford Academy boys 55, Byne Christian 54: Cade Hughes led Ashford Academy with 13 points and 14 assists, James Gardner had 11 points and nine rebounds, Corey Jones 12 points and 12 rebounds and Blake Epperson 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Ashford Academy girls 45, Byne Christian 35: Ebony Cook led Ashford Academy with 14 points, and Wendy Jay scored 10.
Northside Methodist boys 88, Victory Baptist 26: The Knights improved to 5-1 as Leverete Bristol scored 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Tyler Phares scored 17 points and Sean Troster 10 points.
Northside Methodist girls 82, Victory Baptist 21: Kim Jenkins scored 27 points and earned 10 steals, pacing the Lady Knights (2-1).
Brooke Segler had 14 points and Hannah Jordan 13.
JV basketball
Northview boys 45, Rehobeth 40: B.J. Chitty and Antonio Snell led Northview with 14 points each.
Mike Reid led Rehobeth with 12 points.
Wicksburg JV girls 39, Houston Academy 19: Amber Weeks and Kendra Ness had eight points each and Kassidy Gilley seven for the Lady Panthers.
Kelli McCaffrey led Houston Academy in a losing cause, scoring 11 points and earning two rebounds.
Also for HA, Lauren Hutto had four points and four rebounds, Greer Gause two points and seven rebounds and Ruthie Tarwater had two points and four rebounds.
Ashford Academy JV boys 28, Byne 25: Danny Wagner led Ashford Academy with 11 points.
Ashford Academy JV girls 25, Byne 22: Ashton Kirkland led Ashford Academy with 12 points.
Middle School/Junior High
Houston Academy Junior High B 41, Wicksburg 40 (OT): The Raiders hit two shots at the buzzer, one to force overtime then one to win it in OT.
Gavin Gunter had a putback at the buzzer to end regulation and extend the game. Then in the overtime with Wicksburg up one after a free throw, Harris Lane passed to Clay Stout, who hit a game-winner underneath the basket at the buzzer.
Camie Choquette had 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead HA and Nathan Turner had eight points.
Jalon Harris had 11 points and Chad Barrentine eight for Wicksburg.
Houston Academy junior high A team 45, Wicksburg 36: Justin Cullifer had 15 points, Chris Johnson 14 and James Medley 13 to lead the Raiders.
Andrew Jones had 14 points and Lake Gerad 12 for Wicksburg.
Geneva junior high boys 38, Geneva County 28: The Panthers topped the Bulldogs by 10 points.
Rico Lawson had 23 points to lead Geneva County.
Honeysuckle Middle School boys 57, Dauphin Jr. 52: Bernard McGhee had 15 points and Edwin Critten 12 to pace Honeysuckle’s win over Dauphin.
Dauphin was led by Jordan McGowan with 20 points and Demitrius Rogers with 17.
Beverlye Middle School boys 55, Houston County 23: Darius Critten led Beverlye (5-0) with 11 points, Marquez White added 10 and Bobby Peterman nine.
Dauphin Jr. girls 27, Honeysuckle 23: Mary Robinson had 14 points to lead Dauphin over Honeysuckle.
Karisma Thomas had 13 to top Honeysuckle.
Providence Christian junior high girls 31, G.W. Long 18: Elizabeth Dowd led PCS with eight points.
Northside Methodist JV 27, Victory Baptist 26: Victory Baptist missed a last-second shot and the Knights won their opener.
Matthew Sasser had eight points and Shay Hunsucker six points and 13 rebounds.
