Prep roundup: Houston Academy falls short of big upset

Sheldon Thompkins scored 10 and Takwain Whigham nine as Class 2A’s No. 4 Barbour County (18-4, 6-0) avoided an upset with a 37-33 win over Houston Academy.
The Raiders led 32-29 with two minutes left before turnovers led to easy buckets for the Jaguars. Jo-El Bennett led HA with 13 points.
Dale County 42, Pike County 41: Jay Bennett scored his only point of the night, hitting the front end of a 1-and-1 with 1.4 seconds left. Brian Freeman led the Warriors (13-8, 3-3) with 18 points and Xavier Hightower scored 11.
Kendrick Jackson led PCHS with 14 points and David Foster scored 10.
Providence Christian 64, Geneva County 33: Banks Smith led the Eagles (7-9, 3-2) with 20 points. Justin Peak scored 16 and Sam Dowd 12. Desmond Lett led GCHS (4-15, 0-6) with 11 points.
Emmanuel Christian 83, Grace Christian 40: Garrett Golden led Emmanuel (13-1) with 16 points. Michael Vickers scored 14 and Gabe Hall 13. Will LaCour, Ben Fain and Jonathan Smith scored 10 each.
Samson 52, Cottonwood 51: Josh Milsap scored 16 with 17 rebounds and had a steal and lay-up with nine seconds left to give the Tigers the win. Deonte Williams scored 10.
For Cottonwood, D.D. Dawsey scored 23 and Alex Morris 13.
Daleville 67, Slocomb 62: Robert Owens scored 27 points, Tez Flowers 18 and Roddrick Craig 14 to pace Daleville (8-13, 2-4).
Lee Merritt had 29 for Slocomb (13-8, 5-1). Josh Adams added 12 and Clay Holmes 10.
Wicksburg 64, Geneva 51: Ryan Clark scored 20 and grabbed eight rebounds for Wicksburg. Hunter Butler added 17 points, and Matthew Presgraves scored 13 and had 17 rebounds. Geneva was led by Tavares McIntyre with 13 and Willie Williams with 11.
Ashford 78, St. James 49: James Gardner had 18 pints to lead four players in double figures for Ashford (11-11, 6-2). Cliff Wesley had 16, Mike Ray 12 and J.R. Lewis 10.
Houston County 64, G.W. Long 31: Andrew Bolden scored 13 to lead the Lions, while Jeremy Robinson and Jazeric Peterson each scored 10. G.W. Long was led by Carlos McLeod with 15 and Dwayne Whigham with 12.
Houston County 84, Cottonwood 58: On Thursday night, the Lions won behind 19 points from Andrew Bolden, 16 from Ernest Tyson, 13 from Desmond Warren and 12 from Deion Moore.
D.D. Dawsey had 23 points and Desmond Debose 17 for Cottonwood.
Kinston 44, Pleasant Home 41: Hunter Anderson led Kinston with 18 points and Cory Sims scored 15.
New Brockton 51, Ariton 36: Shambray Johnson, Chris Green and Tevin McNair scored 10 each for the Gamecocks. Keeshun Leggett scored 16 for Ariton.
Straughn 39, Calhoun 37: Caleb Cochran led Straughn (7-11, 2-4) with nine points. C.J. Christopher hit the game-winning free throws with 20 seconds left.
Northside Methodist 57, Chilton Christian 41: Shay Hunsucker led Northside with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Aaron Finn scored 13 and Adderly Zimmerman 12.
Dixie Academy 63, SMCA 28: Jordan Green led Dixie with 19 points. Cody Drawdy scored 12 and Dakota Hudson 11.
Charles Henderson 42, Eufaula 34: Justin Davis led CHHS with 15 points and JaQuan Toney scored 10. Marcell Peterson led Eufaula with nine points.
Mobile Christian 52, Red Level 38: James Fagan led Red Level with 17 points.

Barbour County 62, Houston Academy 25: Jessica Whigham scored 23 for BCHS (14-4, 6-0). Madison Potter led HA (7-10, 2-4) with 16 points.
Providence Christian 63, Geneva County 27: Andrea Charlton and Elizabeth Dowd scored 18 each for the Eagles (17-2, 5-0). Madison Longchamp scored 15 and Katie Dowd had 13 rebounds.
Slocomb 58, Daleville 35: Cassidy Littlefield led Slocomb (13-5, 4-2) with 23 points and A’tavius Smith scored 12. Rone Francis scored 14 for Daleville (6-13, 2-4).
Houston County 50, G.W. Long 45 (OT): Jasmin Hamilton scored 21 for the Lions. Michelle Miller scored 11 and Tiffany Worlds 10. Kirstie Ross led G.W. Long with 21 points.
Dale County 40, Pike County 22: At Brundidge, Caitlin Watson scored 10 points and Khadaji Grubbs added eight for Dale County (5-11, 2-4 area). Tierra Hall paced Pike County with 11 points.
Brantley 33, Highland Home 27: Armanti Upshaw scored 15 with 12 rebounds for Brantley (13-7).
Pike Liberal Arts 48, Glenwood 28: Eady Pinckard led Pike (12-4, 6-2) with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Rebecca Farrar scored 10 with 12 rebounds.
New Brockton 29, Ariton 27 (OT): Lisa Howard scored 15, including the game-winning free throws late, for the Gamecocks and Whitney Brantley scored 11.
Lakeside 51, Autauga 33: Logan Adams scored 20 with 11 rebounds for the Chiefs. Peyton Brown scored 16 and Merritt Waddell had 13 assists and five steals.
Samson 73, Cottonwood 30: Roslyn Bess and Haley Earles scored 14 each for Samson. Kylie Smith scored 11 and Janasia Green scored 10 with 13 rebounds.
Geneva 80, Wicksburg 20: Cheree’ Duncan scored 27, Kasey Carswell 15 and Kailey Ausley 10 for Geneva (20-3). Wicksburg was led by Amber Weeks with nine.
Mobile Christian 42, Red Level 34: Koneshia Calloway led Red Level with eight points.
Northside Methodist 25, Chilton Christian 18: Hannah Jordan scored 13 for the Lady Knights.
South Walton 48, Graceville 34: Graceville lost the top seed in the district with a loss to the Seahawks (12-0 district).
Wynterria Pittman had 10 points and Mychea Williams nine for Graceville (13-1 district).

Ashford 52, St. James 43: Raphael Alvarado had 16 points, Tacorey Hardeman 12 and Deontae Wesley 10 to lead Ashford.

Eufaula 43, Charles Henderson 34: Quay Norris led Eufaula with 12 points and Tyler Mitchell scored 18 for CHHS.
Wicksburg 73, Geneva 47: Gabriel Richards scored 21 and grabbed 15 rebounds, while Josh Blevins and Lake Genard each scored 11.
Geneva was led by D.J. Hornsby with 11.
Northside Methodist 44, Chilton Christian 19: Brantley Sloop led NMA with 14 points. Sam Short scored 12 with 10 rebounds.
