Roundup: Andrews leads Pike County

ABBEVILLE — Tevin Andrews had the game of his life for Pike County in a win over Abbeville Friday night.
Andrews picked off two passes and returned them for a total of 67 yards. He also had three receptions for 75 yards, including a 48-yard score from Josh Parker. He also had four tackles.
But his biggest play came with six minutes left in the game, when he scooped up a fumble at the Pike County 12 and raced 88 yards for the game-winning score in a 25-19 Pike County win.
Spencer Bright, who had 10 tackles, forced the fumble after a completed pass. Elijah Caple had 11 tackles, and Josue Rodriguez returned an interception 57 yards.
Parker threw two TD passes, the one to Andrews and a 5-yarder to C.C. Griffin. Griffin ran for 67 yards on the night. Parker also had a 1-yard TD run.
Dale County 21, Wicksburg 8: Trey Watson ran for 126 yards and two second-half touchdowns to lead Dale County (5-1, 3-1 in region). Watson ran for 72-yard score in the third quarter to put Dale County ahead, and he finished with an 11-yard run in the fourth. He also had nine tackles.
Justin Wesley threw a 46-yard TD pass to Justin Brown in the second quarter. Wesley kicked all three PATs.
Dustin Cogburn ran for Wicksburg’s touchdown and the two-point conversion in the first quarter.
New Brockton 17, Elba 7: Tevin McNair rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown in helping New Brockton pull the victory.
New Brockton improves to 3-3 overall, 2-2 in region play.
Elba is 4-2 overall, 2-2 in region play.
Elba took a 7-0 lead when Gavin Respress returned a fumble 18 yards for a touchdown.
But it was Elba having the turnover problems for the most part with four in the game.
New Brockton rebounded with 17 points in the first half, coming on an 14-yard run by McNair, a 28-yard touchdown catch by Seth Culverhouse from Hunter
Cauley and a 41-yard field goal by Kyle Roehler. Culverhouse had three catches in the game.
David Davidson led the way for the Gamecocks defense with 13 tackles, while Culverhouse had nine tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception, Josh Stanton had seven tackles and a fumble recovery, McNair had eight tackles and Matt Halsted had six tackles and a fumble recovery.
Carlos Matias had 149 yards rushing to lead Elba on 19 carries.
Providence Christian 49, Florala 0: The Eagles jumped to a 35-0 lead by halftime in rolling to the victory.
Providence improved to 3-3 overall, 2-2 in region play.
Florala is 1-4, 1-3 in region play.
Providence scored on its opening drive when Chris Crawford took it in from two yards out. He had 165 yards rushing in the game.
Florala was intercepted on its first possession and Nathan O’Dell scored on a 3-yard run to make it 14-0 following the extra point kick by Banks Smith.
A 75-yard touchdown run by Preston Jones and a Smith PAT made it 21-0 with 51 seconds remaining in the opening quarter. Jones had 122 yards rushing on the night.
Crawford scored on an 18-yard run early in the second quarter, and Smith scored on a 15-yard run midway through the second quarter to give Providence the big first half lead.
In the second half, Austin Gilchrist connected with Preston Jones on a 29-yard touchdown pass.
Gilchrist replaced starting quarterback Nick Plagenhoef in the first half after Plagenhoef injured an ankle.
Kyle Flannery, the holder for extra points, ran in a 2-point conversion for a 43-0 lead.
The final score came when Crawford broke loose for an 85-yard touchdown run.
Barbour County 16, G.W. Long 14: Barbour County recorded a safety with 45 seconds left in the game to pull out the victory.
With the Jaguars trailing late in the fourth quarter, Calvin Fenn intercepted a pass and returned it to the Barbour County 45 to set up a score, a 1-yard Fenn run with one minute left in the game to make it 14-12.
Barbour County then converted the try for 2 as Quantez McCrae ran in for a score to make it 14-14.
A good kickoff and tackle backed G.W. Long up on its 5. As Fenn was making a tackle in the end zone, the ball was thrown down and intentional grounding was called, resulting in the safety.
Barbour County is now 4-2 overall, 3-1 in region play.
Fenn scored on a 2-yard run for the only points of the first half.
In the third quarter, G.W. Long’s Dewayne Whigham scored on a 45-yard run, and the Rebels led 7-6 following the extra point kick before the Jaguars rallied for the eventual victory.
Fenn had 15 tackles and 72 yards rushing. Devondrick Richardson had 13 tackles and Robert Lampley 10.
McCrae was 6-of-13 passing for 85 yards.
Whigham led G.W. Long with 132 yards.
McKenzie 25, Geneva County 21: In a back-and-forth game, Emmanual Henderson scored on an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter to give McKenzie the victory.
McKenzie improves to 6-0 overall, 4-0 in the region.
Geneva County is 3-3 overall, 3-1 in the region.
Calvin Henderson connected with Melvin Owens on a touchdown pass in the opening quarter to put McKenzie on top.
Karon White got Geneva County on the scoreboard on a 15-yard run and Patrick Fondren added the extra point kick to make it 7-7 in the first quarter.
McKenzie went back on top on a 52-yard run, but Geneva County reclaimed the lead at 14-13 when Julian Ammons scored on a 6-yard run and Fondren hit the PAT.
Henderson gave McKenzie back the lead at halftime, 19-14, on a 6-yard run.
In the third quarter, Geneva County quarterback Rico Reese connected with Kevin Key on a 20-yard touchdown pass as the Bulldogs led 21-19 before McKenzie rallied for the final score.
Ammons had 142 yards rushing on 12 carries, while White had 123 yards on 14 tries.
Ammons had six solo tackles and two assists, while Key had five solos and four assists.
Geneva 39, Headland 15: Headland led 15-13 at halftime before Geneva stormed back and took over in the second half.
No stats were reported for Geneva.
For Headland, Trevor Windham scored both touchdowns — one from 65 yards out and the other from 20. Windham had 108 yards rushing on 18 carries.
Defensively for the Rams, Drew Davis had four solo tackles and seven assists, while Seth Crozier had six solos and three assists.
Houston County 34, Samson 12: The Lions (3-3, 2-2) had 453 yards of total offense. Edward Robinson had 249 all-purpose yards. Desmond Warren threw for 233 yards on 13-of-21 passes.
Kenny Barber scored two rushing touchdowns, Warren ran for two scores and Raphael Truitt had a rushing touchdown. Samson dropped to 1-5, 1-3 in region play.
Ariton 62, Kinston 0: The Purple Cats led 50-0 by halftime.
In the first quarter, Patrick Robinson scored on a 1-yard run, Craig Sanders scored on a 38-yard run, Ryan Smith returned a fumble 54 yards for a touchdown and Cole Harden threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Taylor Stephens.
After the first score, Sanders connected with Jonathan Lampley on the try for 2. Tyler Deal connected on three extra point kicks.
In the second quarter, Robinson scored on a 4-yard run, Harden scored on a 62-yard run and Harden threw a 30-yard TD to Sanders.
Second half scored came on a 15-yard run by Drey Terry and a 60-yard run by Keeshun Leggett.
Tallassee 34, Carroll 0: Tyler Grant caught three passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns and added 75 yards rushing and a third touchdown to lead Tallassee.
Tigers quarterback Trey Cochran-Gill scored on a 9-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He then connected with Grant for touchdown passes covering 31 and 52 yards in the second and third quarters, respectively.
Opp 20, Ashford 18: Opp stopped a 2-point conversion attempt with six minutes left to hold on for the win.
Adrian Austin scored on a quarterback sneak and threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Josh Dunn for Opp and Richard Davis scored on a 24-yard run.
Opp is now 4-0 in area play, 4-2 overall. Ashford is 2-3, 1-3.
For Ashford, Charlton Pope had two scoring passes to Mike Ray that went for 40 and 35 yards.
Straughn 52, Central Hayneville 12: Ryne Taylor threw touchdown passes of 8 and 40 yards to Jakim Felton as Straughn improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in region play.
Andrew Stokes had a 3-yard TD run, Eric Samuel a 3-yard TD run, Trey Matthews returned an interception 27 yards for a score, Nick Allen had a 23-yard fumble recovery for a TD, and Josh Dewrell threw a 1-yard TD pass to Zac Turvin. Dewrell also kicked a 31-yard field goal.
Ashford Academy 34, Coosa Valley 6: Justin Ingle ran for 160 yards, Kevin Gray ran for 140 yards and Clay Stewart rushed for 100 yards as the Falcons offensive line overpowered Coosa Valley in the victory.
Ashford Academy improves to 4-1.
Stewart had two touchdowns, while Gray and Ingle added a touchdown each. Cade Hughes caught a touchdown pass for the Falcons.
Defensively, Cameron Best had nine tackles and a sack, Cade Kressman had six tackles and Stewart had four tackles and a sack. Gray had an interception, which he returned 50 yards. Ashford Academy led 14-0 at halftime.
Seminole County 49, Calhoun County 20: Johnny Jones ran 19 times for 216 yards and four touchdowns to lead Seminole County. Seminole County had 408 yards of total offense.
Thomasville 40, Early County 6: Thomasville led 40-0 at halftime in recording the win.
The Bobcats’ lone score came in the fourth quarter when T.J. Allen connected with Ronald Latson on a 11-yard pass.
Hooper Academy 46, Lakeside 14: Hooper Academy amassed 441 yards on the ground led by Morgan Faulkner with 298 yards on 33 carries and four touchdowns. With Hooper trailing 14-13 at halftime, Faulkner scored three times on runs of 19, 24 and 11 yards in the second half. He also scored once in the first with a nine yard run.
