Elba sent a warning shot to Class 2A, Region 2 foes that they will be a major player in the region last Friday.
The Tigers (2-0, 1-0) not only dominated, but shutout defending region champion Cottonwood on the Bears’ home turf, 28-0.
It was the first time Cottonwood had been shutout since a state playoff game in 2003 at Autaugaville and was the first time in 15 years the Bears were shutout at home in Cottonwood.
The Tiger defense forced three turnovers, sacked Bears quarterback Andrew Cain four times and contained the potentially explosive Cottonwood offense.
The offense, behind quarterback Michael Lindsey, running back Carlos Matias and wide receiver Gavin Respress, consistently moved on the Bears’ defense, making it a comfortable margin on the scoreboard.
