G.W. Long principal Jason Steed confirmed Friday evening that Rebel head football coach George Kennedy resigned effective immediately.
Assistant coach Scott Horne will take over as interim coach, starting with tonight’s game in Skipperville against Houston County.
“George just felt it was in the best interest of the program to get out, so we can go in a different direction,” Steed said. “He felt it was best to step aside to get new blood in here.”
Kennedy, a Wiregrass veteran of 14 seasons as a head coach, was in his second year at Long and had a 1-15 record, including 1-5 this year.
