Lee-Scott edges Pike Liberal Arts

TROY — Shane Corbett kicked a field goal with less than six minutes to go, providing ninth-ranked Lee-Scott with a 17-14 win over No. 3 Pike Liberal Arts Friday night.

Both teams are now 6-1 overall and 4-1 in AISA, Class AAA, Region 1.

Jerel Foster rushed for 183 yards on 29 carries for Pike Lib, including a 6-yard TD run.

Justin McLaughlin added a 1-yard TD run for the Patriots and Trey Walters completed 3-of-8 passing for 67 yards.

Lee-Scott scored on an 80-yard Trey Moreman to Will Garner touchdown pass and an interception return by Sam Coles.

Corey Goodson and Nick McLaughlin both had 13 tackles to lead the Pike Liberal Arts defense.

Wicksburg 14, Abbeville 7: Wicksburg scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and made it hold up in beating the Yellow Jackets 14-7.

Dustin Cogburn rushed for 81 yards on 14 carries and had both touchdowns for Wicksburg. Colby Thomley threw for 133 yards off 11-of-20, but had two interceptions.

Brooks County 37, Early County 7: Shawn Williams returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a score, but it was the only highlight for the Bobcats, who fell to 0-6.

The Trojans scored on three straight possessions following the kickoff return to build a 23-7 lead after the quarter and added two second-quarter scores.
Barbour County 31, New Brockton 20: Up 25-20, the Jaguars held the Gamecocks on downs, and Jeremy McCrae then broke loose for an 82-yard touchdown run to seal the win.

New Brockton went ahead 7-0 on Dominique Muhammad’s 4-yard score. Devondrick Richardson ran the kickoff back 85 yards for a score, but the extra point was no good. Richardson then ran 45 yards on a fake punt for a score.

Solomon Harris caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Chris Green on a double pass for NBHS, but Calvin Fenn gave the Jaguars an 18-13 lead with a 15-yard touchdown. Quantez McCrae hit Robert Lampley for a 17-yard touchdown to give BCHS a 25-13 lead. Tevin McNair scored from 8 yards out to cut the lead to 25-20 with 5:08 left.

Alan Yates led BCHS with 12 tackles. Tevin McNair ran for 103 yards for New Brockton.

Daleville 31, Headland 14: Chase Peterson threw a 65-yard TD pass to Trevor Windham and ran for a 12-yard touchdown, but it was not enough for Headland to earn the win.

Romeo Reynolds had 13 tackles for the Rams.

Cottonwood 30, Samson 3: Brett Moore had 70 yards rushing and two touchdowns, Keri Pender had 101 yards and a touchdown for the Bears.
Pender also caught a 14-yard TD pass from John Hayes. Hayes also had an interception in the game.

Pike County 14, Dale County 6: Gerald Adams scored on an 18-yard run with 5:15 left in the game to break a 6-all tie and give Pike County the win. Josh Parker hit C.C. Griffin on a 2-point conversion pass.

Adams ran for 150 yards on the night. Parker was 8-for-10 for 104 yards and a 15-yard TD pass to Tevin Andrews.

Elijah Caple had 15 tackles, Eddie Carter 12 and Spencer Bright 10.

Geneva County 62, Florala 14: Karon White ran for 77 yards and two touchdowns, Julian Ammons had 59 yards and two scores and Geneva County won easily.

Rico Reese threw a 20-ayrd TD pass to Kevin Key, who had 100 yards receiving. Justin Reynolds returned a fumble 30 yards for a score, E.J. Ward returned a kickoff 78 yards for another score, and Reese ran for a 5-yard score. Mike Minefield added a late 30-yard TD run for Geneva County.

Slocomb 20, Geneva 10: Scottie Burdeshaw ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Red Tops. He scored on runs of 1 and 40 yards. Cruise Young had 13 tackles, Colby Hughes seven and Wesley Aplin kicked field goals of 27 and 30 yards and was perfect on extra points.

Houston County 35, G.W. Long 21: Kenny Barber ran for 74 yards and two touchdowns for the Lions, Desmond Warren ran for 65 yards and two more scores, and Edward Robinson added the final score.

Warren was 10-for-15 for 189 yards and one interception, which G.W. Long returned for a touchdown.

Straughn 47, Calhoun 14: Straughn had more safeties (three) than Calhoun had touchdowns (two).

Andrew Stokes ran for three Straughn scores (3, 3, 1), C.J. Christopher returned an interception 17 yards for a TD, Anthony Elmore scored on a 3-yard run and Ryne Taylor threw an 18-yard pass to James Byrd.

Eufaula 28, Carroll 18: Demonte Jett ran for touchdowns of 12, 1 and 8 yarsd and threw a 49-yard TD pass to Lazabian Jackson. Will McKee was perfect on four extra points.

Ashford Academy 28, Abbeville Christian 14: Preston Harris threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns, hitting Cade Hughes with one and Kevin Gray for the other. Gray also had 89 yarsd rushing and another score, and Clay Stewart ran for 57 yards and another TD.

Justin Ingle had 158 yard rushing and had 14 tackles and a sack. Cameron Best had eight tackles and a sack, and Tyler Williams and Jared Ingle had eight tackles each. T.J. Lolong added seven tackles, a forced fumble and a sack.

Holtville 29, Ashford 24: Daniel Arant and Akevious McCall both scored in the final four minutes and Holtville downed Ashford (2-4, 1-4).
Holtville trailed 24-14 when it took possession with 4:08 left.

Charles Henderson 28, Rehobeth 14: Bunk Devane threw a 75-yard TD pass to James Cummings, and Cody Strickland added a 2-yard TD run for Rehobeth.
For Charles Henderson, K.D. Edenfield ran for three scores (1,1,4) and threw a 25-yard TD pass to Jawara White.
