HEADLAND — Headland held on for 22-20 victory after Geneva scored with one minute remaining and didn’t make a 2-point conversion as the Rams got a quarterback sack.

Headland got on the scoreboard first when B.J. Kingston hit a 37-yard field goal.

The Rams got a 55-yard touchdown on a pass from Aaron Sanders to Yorey Collins.

The other Headland touchdowns came on a 1-yard run by Jahwon Williams and a 25-yard run by Adrian Galloway.

Williams’ 1-yard run came after he recovered a Geneva fumble and returned it 60 yards.

Galloway had 88 yards rushing and Trevor Windham had 76.

Defensively for the Rams, Drew Davis had 13 tackles and an interception, Ernest Whitehurst had seven tackles and a fumble recovery.

For Geneva, Quan Tolbert scored on runs of 58 and 7 yards, with the 7-yarder coming with a minute left. Brad Horne threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to JoJo Tolver and Tate Sutherland kicked two extra points.

McKenzie 27, Geneva County 20: No. 10-ranked McKenzie jumped out to a 19-0 lead and held on for the win in Class 1A, Region 1 action.

McKenzie improves to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the region, while Geneva County is 4-2 overall and 3-1 in the region.

Emmanuel Johnson was the star for McKenzie, running for three touchdowns and throwing for another.

Johnson scored on a 38-yard run to make it 7-0, then threw a 39-yard scoring pass for a 13-0 lead.

His 20-yard run made it 19-0 with 2:37 to play in the first half before Geneva County got on the scoreboard as Richard Williams intercepted a pass and returned it 35 yards for a score, making it 19-7 following the PAT.

After a scoreless third quarter, Geneva County pulled within 19-13 as E-Shane McNeal scored on a 38-yard run.

Johnson scored on a 18-yard run and ran in the 2-point conversion for a 27-13 lead with 3:55 left.

Williams then returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown for the final touchdown.

Rico Lawson had 64 yards rushing and McNeal 60 for the Bulldogs.

Eric Walding was 10-of-16 passing for 138 yards with four interceptions.

Williams had four catches for 76 yards and Desmond Lett had four for 45.

Josh Smith led Geneva County on defense with nine tackles and two fumble recoveries. Bradley Hutcherson had 10 tackles and Williams eight.

Daleville 34, Slocomb 17: Slocomb led 17-7 going to the fourth quarter, but the 3A-ranked Warhawks scored 27 unanswered points in eight minutes to avoid the upset.

Joe Beckham scored on a blocked punt return of 22 yards with 10:11 to go then 55 seconds later Brandon Burks returned a fumble for a touchdown. Beckham then added an interception return for a score and a few minutes later, Burks scored on a 14-yard run with 2:38 left to make it 34-17.

Earlier in the game, Ryan Soles scored on a 63-yard run for Daleville.

For Slocomb, Evan Ballard was 24-for-36 for 170 yards. He threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Mason Silavent. Wesley Aplin had a 26-yard field goal, and Scottie Burdeshaw returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. Burdeshaw also had an interception, as did Zach Hughes.

Jake Knight had seven tackles, Seth Martinez six and Jesse Waters and Brandon Hall five.

G.W. Long 7, Barbour County 6:  Dwayne Whigham threw a touchdown pass to Blake York on a fourth-and-goal play from the 5 in the second quarter and G.W. Long made the lead hold up.

Whigham had 93 yards rushing on 16 carries and Deryck Richards added 42 for G.W. Long.

Defensively for Long, Orion Galloway had 11 tackles, while Josh German and Colt Reeder both had 10 tackles and a fumble recovery. Jesse Lee also had 10 tackles and Whigham nine tackles.

Barbour County pulled within one with 5:47 left in the third quarter when Takwain Whigham scored on a 5-yard run. But the Jaguars try for a 2-point conversion was stopped as the Rebels held on for the victory.

Nick Johnson led Barbour County with 70 yards rushing and Quantez McCrae was 8-of-14 passing for 111 yards. Deandre Boykin and Nico Patterson led the Jaguars’ defense with 10 tackles each.

Providence Christian 54, Florala 0: Banks Smith ran for 170 yards and three touchdowns and caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from Alex Plagenhoef.

Austin Gilchrist had a 15-yard TD run, Brandon O’Donnell an 11-yard run and Colby Butler a 3-yard run. Gilchrist also returned a blocked punt 20 yards for a touchdown. Sterling Gatlin had 13 tackles and an interception.

Providence finished with 395 yards rushing and 50 passing.

Florala finished with 179 total yards, including 109 passing.

Wicksburg 14, Dale County 6: Luke Miller had 17 total tackles, a pass breakup, a blocked punt, a blocked extra point and a fumble recovery in the Panthers’ win.

Evan Smith went 8-of-14 for 158 yards and a 29-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Sullivan. Tyler Dawkins ran for 95 yards and a 6-yard score. Blake Sims had 11 tackles.

Elba 52, New Brockton 14: Richard Cooks wears No. 22 and he scored 22 points on Friday night. Cooks had three interceptions and returned one for a touchdown. He also caught a 37-yard touchdown pass. He kicked a 31-yard field goal and was 7-for-7 on extra points.

Gunnar McCullough had three touchdown passes and 101 yards. Michael Lindsey caught two of those TD passes. Lindsey also had 70 yards rushing and a touchdown. Carlos Matias had two touchdown runs (3 and 1 yards). Kareem Silar and Colton Vaughan also added interceptions.

Houston County 47, Samson 0: Desmond Warren hit 20-of-23 passes for 297 yards with two touchdowns and ran for 62 yards and three scores in the Lions’ romp. Warren ran for scores of 14, 1 and 11 yards, threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Jazeric Peterson and a 63-yard scoring pass to Patrick Smith.

Smith added a 19-yard touchdown run and Chris Wells scored for a yard out for the Lions (5-1, 3-1). Peterson had 107 yards receiving on five catches and Smith had 131 yards on six catches. Nathan Lingo had eight solo tackles.

Ariton 35, Kinston 32: Craig Sanders ran for 278 yards on 33 carries and scored three touchdowns for the Purple Cats.
Sanders scored on runs of 2, 16 and 53 yards.

Layton Grant scored on a 2-yard run and had 60 yards rushing, and Keeshawn Leggett scored on a 3-yard run.

Michael Dooley led the Ariton defense with 10 tackles, while Tyler Deal, Sanders and Grant each had eight.

Straughn 62, Central Hayneville 18: Straughn ran for 307 yards as a team. Eric Samuel ran for 69 yards and three touchdowns, and Sean O’Neil ran for 94 yards and two scores on just three carries.

Reeltown 35, Zion Chapel 0: Fourteen different rushers ran the football for Reeltown in the win.

Leading the way were Ki-Shawn Powell with two rushing touchdown and one defensive score, while Tywone Stewart had 89 yards and a touchdown on just four carries. Freshman James Smith also made a big impact collecting 74 yards on only three rushes.

Booker T. Washington 22, Rehobeth 19: Darryl Madison scored on a 5-yard run for one of Rehobeth’s scores.

Pike County 35, Abbeville 10: Despite a sluggish first half that involved just 14 points and three turnovers, the Bulldogs were able to overcome the Yellow Jackets.

Abbeville’s Quentin Newman returned a 94-yard fumble recovery, cutting the Bulldog lead to four at 14-10.

However, Pike County quarterback Joseph Parker, who finished 180 yards rushing on 20 carries and three touchdowns, scored twice in the second half to spark the Bulldogs down the stretch.

Goshen 31, R.C. Hatch 16: The Eagles (3-3, 3-1) trailed most of the first three quarters before scoring 15 fourth-quarter points.
R.C. Hatch (2-4, 2-2) led 16-15 early in the fourth quarter.

Jerome Lawrence threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Alford and Aaron Bryan’s two-point conversion run put Goshen up 23-16.
Marcus Jackson scored from a yard out to put Goshen up 29-16. Reginald Foster added the two-point conversion to provide the final points of the game.

Foster led Goshen with 146 yards rushing and a touchdown on 16 carries. Jackson scored twice and rushed for 58 yards on 18 carries.
Defensively, Foster had eight tackles, two assisted tackles and a pass breakup.

Bryan has three tackles, two assisted tackles, three pass breakups, an interception and a fumble recovery.

Coosa Valley Academy 14, Ashford Academy 0:
Timmy Garrett had 30 receiving yards for Ashford Academy. Danny Wagoner had 115 yards in kick returns. Jared Ingle had eight solo tackles and three assists to lead the defense. Tyler Williams had four solos, two assists and a sack.

Pike Liberal Arts 52, Tuscaloosa Academy 30: Trey Walters went 12-of-18 for 197 yards and three touchdowns as the Patriots rolled. Taylor Stephens caught nine passes for 80 yards and two scores, and Sam Carroll caught three for 44 and a touchdown.

Stephens also ran nine times for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Evan Strother also ran for a touchdown, and Nick McLaughlin ran 12 times for 76 yards and a touchdown.

Daniel Powell and McLaughlin had eight tackles each. Stephens had seven, and Carroll had three tackles and an interception returned for a touchdown.

Chambers Academy 34, Dixie Academy 22: Chambers took advantage of early Dixie turnovers to build a 14-0 lead on way to a 35-7 halftime advantage.

Dixie Academy surged late, but could only get as close as 13 points.

Eddie Marteli scored on runs of 2 and 7 yards and Mackie Williams threw a 36-yard TD pass to Dakota Hudson for the Rebels. Jordan Green converted two extra points and Marteli scored on a two-point conversion.

Marteli finished with 61 yards rushing for Dixie.

Defensively, Cody Drawdy had 10 tackles and Stephen Price and Taylor Dawson both had seven tackles. Price also recovered a fumble.

Seminole County 42, Calhoun County 0: Chris Brown ran for 188 yards and two touchdowns (35, 41) as Seminole County rolled. Antwan Buggs threw two touchdown passed, hitting Javaris Virgin for a 43-yard score and Howard Stephens for a 26-yard score. Barren Rambo scored on runs of 1 and 9 yards.

Thomasville 37, Early County 0: No stats were reported.
