SEALE — Derrick Thomas scored on a 29-yard run with 1:14 to play in the game to lift Northview to a 10-6 win over Russell County on Friday night.
Davis Swicord kicked through the extra point for the final margin of victory.
Russell County struck first in the opening quarter when Deante Holt scored on a 22-yard run. Russell County was unsuccessful trying for a 2-point conversion.
Northview pulled within 6-3 in the second quarter when Swicord kicked through a 25-yard field goal.
Thomas ran for 83 yards on 18 carries for the game, while Austine Hill ran for 66 yards on 12 carries.
Northview quarterback B.J. Chitty was 8-of-13 passing for 59 yards.
Defensively, the Cougars were led by David Grace and Eddie Martin with 11 tackles each. Grace also had a sack.
Northview is now 3-5 overall and 2-4 in region play.
Straughn 28, T.R. Miller 21: Straughn (5-3, 5-1) upset No. 1 T.R. Miller on Friday night as Josh Dewrell had 14 carries for 101 yards and three touchdowns. Eric Samuel added 17 carries for 91 yards and a score.
The game was back-and-forth throughout, as every time Straughn scored, T.R. Miller answered. Dewrell’s final touchdown, an 8-yard run, came with less than two minutes to play.
This time, though, Miller could not answer, as Riley Watson intercepted a pass with 1:21 left to clinch the win.
As a team, Straughn ran the ball 50 times for 278 yards and 15 first downs.
Headland 13, Dale County 12: Headland stopped a two-point conversion attempt with 25 seconds remaining to win its homecoming game.
Adrian Galloway ran for 161 yards to lead the Rams. Aaron Sanders threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jorey Collins, and he ran 8 yards for another score. Drew Davis had nine solo tackles and four assists, B.J. Kingston six solos and nine assists, and Tyrone Brown had nine solos and four assists.
Geneva 2, Wicksburg 0: Zack Morgan and Tate Sutherland combined on a first-half sack in the end zone for the game’s only score. Sutherland had 12 tackles, and Matthew Crooms added two interceptions.
Quan Tolbert led Geneva with 58 yards rushing, and Deondre Dickens added 47 yards.
For Wicksburg, Tyler Dawkins had 65 yards rushing. Blake Sims had 53 yards of total offense.
Matthew Pressgraves had 14 tackles, including five for loss, and two sacks. Andrew Daugherty had nine tackles, including three for loss. Chad Holley had seven tackles, including one for a loss, and a blocked punt.
Cottonwood 21, Barbour County 14: Brett Moore ran for 126 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bears. Desmond Debose added 109 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 53 yards passing.
On defense, Alex Morris had six tackles and a fumble recovery, D.D. Dawsey six solo tackles and three assists, Brett Moore four solos and two assists, Justin Clark five tackles and three assists and Jordan Bell added two sacks.
Nicholas Johnson scored on a 1-yard run, and Lauray Williams returned a fumble 45 yards for another score, but Barbour County fell short.
Tahwain Whigham ran for 75 yards and had two extra points for Barbour County. Lucas Tyson had 15 tackles, Taurean Richardson and Shaquille Haynes 13 each and Nikko Patterson recovered a fumble.
Abbeville 42, Slocomb 14: Andre Kincey and Corey Gochett both accounted for two touchdowns, leading Abbeville’s win.
Kincey rushed for 132 yards and two score and Gochett threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Quinton Newman, who also rushed for a touchdown. Gochett also returned a fumble for a touchdown.
Jerrell Nelson earned 75 yards rushing and also ran for a touchdown as Abbeville had 290 yards rushing.
Defensively, Darius Brown had eight tackles and Tavantta Lewis and Kincey had five each to lead Abbeville. Romello Russaw had an interception.
For Slocomb, Evan Ballard threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Chad Schmidt, and Nehemiah Mobley ran for 43 yards and a touchdown (22 yards).
Scottie Burdeshaw led the Red Tops with 73 yards rushing. Seth Martinez had 10 tackles.
Elba 36, Samson 0: Carlos Matias ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns (22, 1) to lead the Tigers to another win. Michael Lindsey ran for 69 yards and two scores (36, 11), and Gunnar McCollough threw a 34-yard TD pass to Antwain Griffin. Richard Cooks kicked three PATs and a 28-yard field goal.
Brantley 31, Geneva County 21: Eric Walding went 9-for-19 for 223 yards and two touchdowns, but Brantley was too strong. Eshane McNeal added a 1-yard touchdown run for Geneva County.
Richard Williams had 10 solo tackles and two assists, and Bradley Huthcerson added 10 solos. Josh Smith had 10 tackles and a sack.
Desmond Lett caught two touchdown passes (70, 45) had six solo tackles, one assist, recovered a fumble and had an interception.
Ariton 24, Florala 8: Layton Grant ran for 202 yards on just 10 carries and scored on runs of 22 and 90 yards. Craig Sanders added 13-yard TD run, and he had 10 tackles. Nate Hagler and Michael Dooley had nine tackles each, and Cody Wallace recorded two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
Eufaula 27, Rehobeth 17: Eufaula had to have two fourth-quarter scores to pull away from upset-minded Rehobeth.
Eufaula, which overcame nine fumbles, five of which they lost, trailed 17-14 when Ladarius Ware scored on a 6-yard run early in the fourth quarter. Demonte Jett added an 18-yard score later in the quarter.
Ramon Lewis and Ware scored in the first half for Eufaula.
Rehobeth scored on a 70-yard fumble return, a short touchdown run and a field goal.
Charles Henderson 50, Carroll 8: The Charles Henderson Trojans picked up their second straight win Friday, blowing out Carroll 50-8.
The Trojans (3-5, 3-3) scored touchdowns on all but one possession.
That lone non-scoring possession came at the end of the game when CHHS had the ball at the Carroll (0-8, 0-6) 1-yard line, but opted to let the clock run out instead of running an additional play.
CHHS led 22-8 at halftime behind the strength of two K.D. Edenfield touchdown runs.
The Trojans blew the game wide open in the third quarter, scoring 21 points in the period off a Corey Dennis touchdown run, an Edenfield touchdown pass to Devin Davenport and when Louis Schrieber picked up a Carroll fumble and rambled 40 yards for a touchdown.
Edenfield led the Trojans with 125 yards and two scores on 12 carries. Dennis had 84 yards and two scores on six carries. Billy Neal carried the ball four times for 57 yards.
The Trojan passing attack did not miss on a pass attempt all night, as three Trojan quarterbacks combined to go 9-for-9 for 94 yards and a score.
Overall, Charles Henderson amassed 463 yards, 369 on the ground.
Lequavious Bryant had two interceptions for Charles Henderson.
Andalusia 33, Hillcrest-Evergreen 14: Andalusia secured a playoff spot in Class 4A, Region 1 Friday night, defeating Hillcrest-Evergreen 33-14 on homecoming.
Andalusia¹s T.K. Bullard scored on runs of 20 yards and four yards and finished with 120 yards for Andalusia (5-3, 4-2).
Johnny Jones scored on 8-yard run, Shane Dorsey returned an interception 78 yards and Marcus Jones scored on a 50-yard run for Andalusia’s other scores.
Houston County 44, New Brockton 0: The Gamecocks kept the high-flying passing game of the Lions down, but Houston County turned to the running game and defense.
The Lions rushed for six touchdowns and also had a punt return for a score, while the defense recorded its second shutout in three weeks.
Jamerius Henderson and Patrick Smith had two rushing touchdowns each and Desmond Warren and Kenny Barber one each.
Jazeric Peterson returned a punt for the other score.
Goshen 27, Highland Home 12: The Eagles’ backfield duo of Marcus Jackson and Reginald Foster ruined Highland Home’s night with three second-half touchdowns to give Goshen (5-3, 5-1 2A Region 2) a 27-12 victory.
The Flying Squadron (1-7, 1-5) and Eagles were tied at 6-6 with time running out in the third quarter when Jackson burst up the middle on a 58 yards TD run to put Goshen up 14-6.
Foster got the first of his two touchdowns with a 40-yard scamper to put Goshen up 20-6.
On the very next Eagles’ drive, Foster took the pitch and ran 67 yards for a score to put Goshen up 27-6 and put the game out of reach.
Jackson’s scored on a 3-yard run early in the game.

Ashford Academy 28, Lyman Ward 0: Danny Wagoner ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Preston Harris added two more scores. Tim Garrett had 75 yards receiving. Trey Johnson added an interception.
Wagoner also had six solo tackles and two assists. David Ingram had five solos and five assists, and Jimmy Grider six solos and a sack.
Pike Liberal Arts School 23, Bessemer Academy 14: Taylor Stephens ran for 117 yards and a touchdown, and Trey Walters threw for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Sam Carroll had 30 yards receiving and one score, and Ashton Davis caught a 20-yard touchdown.
Will Starling had seven tackles, Stephens six, Nick McLaughlin and Dillon Richards five each, and Justin McLaughlin had three tackles, including a safety.
PLAS outgained Bessemer 351-202.

Sneads 12, Vernon 0: Mark Lawson rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns. The game was scoreless at halftime. Lawson scored a 3-yard TD run on Sneads’ first possession of the third.
Lawson scored from 12 yards out on the next possession. SHS held Vernon to 136 yards of offense and shut them out for the first time this year.
Marianna 42, Blountstown 24: Chris Bowers (sophomore) rushed for 112 yards and two TDs on 12 carries. Tre Jackson rushed for 74 yards and a TD, and Fidel Montgomery rushed for 51 yards and two TDs and returned a fumble 65 yards for another score.
MHS jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first half and led 28-6 at halftime. Blountstown cut it to 35-24 on a 3-yard TD run by Leon Broxton with 6:56 left, but MHS answered with an 80-yard TD drive with Bowers scoring from 5 yards out with 2 minutes left. Broxton rushed for 90 yards and a TD. Marianna is 4-3 and Blountstown is 5-1.
Liberty County 35, Graceville 16: Graceville fell to 1-5 on the year and Liberty County is 5-1. Liberty County led 21-0 after the first quarter. Liberty County led 28-8 at halftime.

Fitzgerald 48, Early County 0: No stats were reported from this game.
Miller County 19, Seminole County 6: No. 9 Seminole County lost a battle of ranked teams, falling to No. 10 Miller County 19-6.
Seminole County scored in the first period on a 12-yard Owen Parks to Chris Brown touchdown pass.
Tied at 6-6 in the third, the Pirates forged ahead in the third quarter on a 70-yard interception return by Shawdre Sheffield.
A 21-yard TD pass from Caleb Cunningham to Juwan Jones iced the game for Miller County in the fourth quarter.
