Rehobeth earns first win of the season

DALEVILLE — Rehobeth is winless no more, and Daleville’s undefeated season is a thing of the past.

The Rebels (1-4) scored two second-half touchdowns to break a 14-14 tie and run away with a 27-14 win over Daleville (4-1).

Dylan Medley ran for 60 yards and a 7-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that iced the game. Bunk Devane hit James Cummings with a 21-yard TD pass and ran for a 10-yard score, and Darryl Madison caught a 7-yard TD pass from Madison Williams.

Devane had 75 yards passing on the night.

Elba 21, Geneva 14: Geneva appeared poised for a victory Friday, driving inside the Elba 20 late in the game, but a Tiger defender popped the ball loose and Gavin Respress picked the fumble up and returned it 89 yards to break a 14-14 tie with 1:10 left and give the Tigers the win.

Elba also scored on a 57-yard touchdown pass from back-up quarterback Gunner McCollough to Richard Cooks and an 85-yard kickoff return by Carlos Matias.

Goshen 51, Pike County 26: Goshen led 16-8 at halftime, but exploded for 35 second-half points to earn the win.

Marcus Jackson rushed for 219 yards and scored five touchdowns for the Eagles (2-3) in beating their county rivals.

For Pike County (2-3), C.C. Griffin rushed for 126 yards and a score and also had an 85-yard kickoff return. Josh Parker earned 125 yards rushing and a score and also completed a touchdown pass to Daquan Bryant.

Eddie Carter had 12 tackles on defense for Pike County.

Wetumpka 35, Northview 14: Jamal Golden ran for a pair of touchdowns and passed for another one in leading Wetumpka to a win over Northview.
Golden scored on a pair of 4-yard runs and also threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Ikeem Meens. Dontice Sanders added two more rushing touchdowns for the Indians.

Joe Almond scored on a first-quarter touchdown run to temporarily give Northview a 7-0 lead. The Cougars (2-3) added their final touchdown in the final seconds of the game.

Dale County 33, Barbour County 21: Trey Watson ran for 80 yards and two touchdowns as Dale County won. Justin Brown added a touchdown run, an 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and an interception on defense.

Cottonwood 15, Geneva County 7: Kerry Pender caught seven passes for 72 yards and a touchdown, and Andrew Cain added another score for the Bears.

Cain threw for 120 yards, but he also had three interceptions.

Defensively, the Bears were led by John Hayes with six solo tackles and eight assists, while D.D. Dawsey had seven solos and one assist and Jake Roberts had five solos, three assists and a sack.

Geneva County’s touchdown came on a 56-yard punt return by Karon White with 7:54 to play in the fourth quarter. Patrick Fondren kicked through the extra point to tie the game at 7-7.

White had 128 yards rushing on 12 carries and a catch of 40 yards. Rico Reese was 11-of-18 passing for 124 yards.

Julian Ammons had nine tackles, a sack and an interception. Desmond Lett had five tackles and two interceptions.

Houston County 41, Abbeville 30: Edward Robinson threw for 307 yards and a touchdown, and he ran for 51 yards and two more scores as the Lions roared. Houston County rolled up 481 yards of total offense.

Robinson also intercepted two passes on defense. Kenny Barber ran for 62 yards and a score, and Patrick Smith, Darnell Robinson and Jazeric Peterson each scored a touchdown.

Wicksburg 24, G.W. Long 6: James Brock had 148 yards rushing on 11 attempts, including a 78-yard scoring run, in leading Wicksburg to the victory.
Brock also threw a halfback pass to Kyle Sullivan for a 56-yard score. Sullivan caught three passes for 79 yards.

Dustin Cogburn scored two touchdowns — one coming on a 6-yard run and the other on a 23-yard TD catch from Colby Thomley. Cogburn rushed for 59 yards on 14 attempts.

Thomley was 9-of-16 passing for 156 yards.

Blake Sims had a big night defensively for the Panthers with 10 solo tackles and four assists, while Emory Shepard, Jon Davis and Astin Williams each had six tackles.

Wicksburg is now 3-2, while G.W. Long is 1-4.

The game was tied 6-6 at the end of the first quarter, and Wicksburg led 12-6 at halftime. The Panthers scored 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Straughn 35, Opp 20: Straughn scored 35 unanswered points after falling behind 14-0 in getting the victory.

Straughn remains unbeaten at 5-0, while Opp is 3-2.

Andrew Stokes ran for 96 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers.

Opp opened the scoring when Josh Scarborough went in from 1 yard out in the first quarter. A 16-yard run early in the second quarter by Quadir Kincaid put the Bobcats up 14-0 following the extra point kick.

Stokes got Straughn on the scoreboard with a 38-yard touchdown run, and the Tigers pulled within 14-13 with just three seconds before halftime when Ryne Taylor scored on a 1-yard run. The PAT was missed.

Straughn took its first lead with 2:22 to play in the third quarter when Eric Samuel scored on a 13-yard run. The Tigers converted a try for 2 when Taylor passed to C.J. Christopher.

Early in the fourth quarter, Stokes scored on a 1-yard run. Samuel scored on a 7-yard run to make it 35-14.

Samuel had 79 yards rushing on nine carries.

With 6:31 left, Opp got back on the scoreboard when Richard Davis went in from 8 yards out.

Taylor had 83 yards rushing and was 12-of-21 passing for 111 yards.

Ashford Academy 42, Dixie Academy 7: Justin Ingle ran for 111 yards and three touchdowns, Kevin Gray added 135 yards and two scores, and Preston Harris intercepted two passes and ran one back for a touchdown.

Harris was 5-for-9 for 76 yards passing. Ingle added eight tackles, and Gray seven.

Theodore 41, Charles Henderson 38 (OT): After Charles Henderson scored on a 24-yard field goal by Dustin Smith, Theodore’s Justin McCreary scored on a 3-yard run on the third play in overtime for Theodore as the Bobcats beat Charles Henderson.

For Charles Henderson, K.D. Edenfield completed 14-of-21 passes for 201 yards and touchdown passes of 16 and 20 yards to Jabari Brown and 8 yards to Jawara White. Edenfield also scored on a 1-yard run.

White also had a 25-yard return of a fumble for a touchdown.

The Trojans (3-2) appeared to be headed for a 35-21 lead in the third quarter, but fumbled the ball on 1st-and-2 and the Bobcats returned it 99 yards to tie the game.

McCreary finished with 155 yards and four touchdowns on 33 carries for Theodore (4-1).

Headland 28, Samson 6: Chase Peterson threw touchdown pass to Seth Crozier and Desmond Wells to lead Headland to its first win of the season.
Michael Thomas and Ethan Parrish added touchdown runs for the Rams.

Ariton 28, New Brockton 10: Craig Sanders rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns, powering the Purple Cats’ victory.

Cole Harden threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Lampley for the other score for Ariton (3-2).

Harden completed 3-of-6 passes for 48 yards for Ariton, which finished with 252 total yards.

Tevin McNair led New Brockton (2-3) with 69 yards rushing on 25 carries and a touchdown. Hunter Cauley completed 10-of-14 for 124 yards with Seth Culverhouse catching six passes for 106 yards.

Kyle Roehler booted a 39-yard field goal for the Gamecocks.

David Davidson led the New Brockton defense with 10 tackles and Culverhouse had nine.

Greenville 29, Andalusia 0: The Bulldogs finished with only 203 total yards, including 118 on the ground in the loss.

Greenville led only 7-0 at halftime, but scored twice in the third quarter and once in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Pike Liberal Arts 36, Taylor Road 0: Jerel Foster rushed for 193 yards and two touchdowns and Douglas Hawkins added 87 and two scores and also had a punt return for touchdown of 46 yards.

Defensively, Bradley Floyd and Blake Thomas had interceptions for PLAS (5-0). Corey Goodson had nine tackles and Will Starling and Rick McLaughlin had seven each.

Abbeville Christian 42, Lyman Ward 14: Gabe Newman rushed for 184 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries and Shelby Watford had 67 yards and two scores on 10 carries, leading the Generals (2-3, 2-2) to a region win.

Newman also accounted for eight other points off three two-point conversions and a safety when he tackled a Rangers running back in the end zone. Watford also scored on a pair of two-point conversions.

Travis Calhoun returned an interception 25 yards for another General score.

Newman recorded 13 tackles, including nine solos, and Watford had nine stops, four unassisted. Dallas Sheffield also had nine tackles with seven solos. Calhoun had seven tackles, five solos.

Marianna 22, Episcopal (Jacksonville) 21: The Bulldogs drove 95 yards for the game-winning score in the fourth quarter and Bradley Battles rushed for 220 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries.

Lakeside 36, Evangel 14: Jay Weston threw for 96 yards and a touchdown, Chris Williams had 68 yards rushing and a score and Blayne Sewell had 13 tackles.

Seminole County 34, Pelham 0: Johnnie Jones rushed for 114 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Indians to their first win of the season.

Rodriguez Scott added 93 yards rushing and a score and Chris Brown had the other score for Seminole County (1-4).

FAMU High 46, Cottondale 0: The host Baby Rattlers raced to a 33-0 halftime lead and coasted to the win.

Berrien 23, Early County 17, OT: Jamarcus Backey tied the game with a few seconds left on a 28-yard field goal, but Early County fell in overtime.
Antonio Williams had touchdown runs of 21 and 1 yards. Ronald Latson led Early County with 69 yards rushing.

Graceville 52, John Paul II Catholic 14: The big play sparked Graceville to a 52-14 win over John Paul II Catholic Thursday night in Tallahassee.
The Tigers (3-1) had four scoring plays of more than 32 yards, including a 97 and 95 yards, in building a 44-14 halftime lead.

Chris Works scored on a 32-yard run and Justin Miles on a 33-yarder for a quick 14-0 lead, then Miles raced 97 yards and Works added an 8-yard run to make it 28-0 at the quarter.

After John Paul II cut the margin in half with two touchdowns, Graceville delivered a knockout blow with a 95-yard TD run by Antrell Wright following the second Panther score. Garrett Steverson added a 10-yard run later in the period.

Two-point conversions were good on both.

Graceville’s final score came in the fourth quarter when back-up running back John Young scored on a 6-yard run.

Miles finished with 132 yards on five carries as Graceville finished with 327 rushing yards and 392 total yards.
