ABBEVILLE — Freshman Siran Neal intercepted a pass at the Abbeville 5-yard line with 59 seconds left in the game to preserve a 28-27 win over Geneva on Friday night.
Quentin Newman scored on runs of 51 and 6 yards to lead the Yellow Jackets’ offense.
Marcus Grimsley had a 47-yard touchdown run, and quarterback Corey Gochett threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Grimsley.
Defensively for Abbeville, Darius Brown had 13 tackles, Jerrell Nelson had 12, and Grimsley and Newman each had 10.
Elba 17, Barbour County 14: Richard Cooks kicked a 27-yard field goal with 24.5 seconds left to lift Elba to the victory.
The Tigers had a goal-line stand in the final five minutes, stopping Barbour County at the 1 before beginning the drive for the field goal.
Elba (3-0) led 7-2 at halftime, thanks to a 39-yard touchdown pass from Gunnar McCollough to Michael Lindsey.
A third-quarter touchdown run of 28 yards by Carlos Matias put Elba up 14-2.
Matias has 177 yards on 27 carries for the game.
Barbour County got a long touchdown pass and a converted a try for 2 in the third quarter to pull within 14-8.
The Jaguars scored a touchdown in the fourth to tie it. The try for 2 was stopped.
McCollough was 6-for-11 passing for 101 yards.
Daleville 13, Dale County 6: Roddrick Craig pick up a fumble and ran 7 yards for a touchdown to put Daleville on top 6-0 on the final play of the third quarter.
Daleville made it 13-0 with 6:45 left in the game when Charlie Stewart intercepted a pass and ran 35 yards for a touchdown.
Dale County scored on a 4-yard run by Dakota Findley with just over two minutes left.
Houston County 48, Cottonwood 28: Desmond Warren threw for nearly 300 yards, including a touchdown pass to Kenny Barber in the Lions win.
No other details were available for Houston County.
For Cottonwood, Desmond Debose scored three touchdowns and had 85 yards rushing.
Brett Moore scored on a 1-yard run for the Bears other touchdown.
Cottonwood lose six fumbles in the game.
Josh Price had 12 tackles and Justin Clark 10 for the Bears.
Pike County 28, Headland 0: Marquavous Knox and Josh Parker accounted for all four of the Bulldogs’ touchdowns and 113 yards rushing.
For Headland, Drew Davis had six solo tackles, five assists and two sacks. Jontavious Moore added seven solos, four assists and a sack.
G.W. Long 41, Samson 20: Jesse Lee ran for 159 yards and two touchdowns, and Dwayne Whigham ran for 143 yards and four scores as G.W. Long rolled. Whigham also threw for 105 yards.
Shane Rutledge and Whigham had eight tackles apiece.
Slocomb 14, Wicksburg 9: Slocomb’s defense intercepted five passes — including four in the fourth quarter — as the Red Tops (2-1, 2-0) overcame a 9-0 halftime deficit.
Scottie Burdeshaw, who had an interception, opened the third quarter with a 59-yard touchdown run. Andre Robinson scored the game-winner with 10:00 left on a 4-yard run.
Mason Silavent and Chad Schmidt had two interceptions apiece, and Schmidt’s final interception came with about a minute left. Jesse Waters added eight tackles and two sacks for the defensive effort.
For Wicksburg, Kyle Sullivan caught four passes for 60 yards and an 18-yard touchdown. Evan Smith threw for 122 yards. Luke Miller led the Panthers with 11 tackles, and Gabe Richards had eight tackles and four sacks.
Ashford 39, Bullock County 20: Michael Wigfall scored on a pair of 1-yard runs and Marvin Anderson scored on runs of 3 and 15 yards to lead Ashford.
James Gardner scored on a 9-yard run, and Mike Ray added a 4-yard score as Ashford built a 39-6 lead in the fourth quarter.
Heath McCray, Chris Hand, Jarvus Moore and Kyle Welch led the Yellow Jackets in tackles.
Geneva County 27, Pleasant Home 12: Eric Walden threw for 151 yards and three touchdowns to lead Geneva County. Walden threw a 20-yard TD pass to Richard Williams, a 33-yarder to Desmond Lett and an 18-yarder to Williams. Lett also scored on a 14-yard run.
Rico Lawson ran for 121 yards to lead the Bulldogs. Walden was 10-for-13 passing. Williams had five receptions for 85 yards.
Lett added eight tackles and an interception on defense. Josh Smith had nine tackles and two sacks. Bradley Hutcherson had 11 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.
Valley 38, Carroll 6: Valley’s defense succumbed to Carroll’s wing-T attack just once, allowing a 1-yard Ronnie Peterman touchdown run at the end of the first half. Aside from that 14-play, 79-yard drive, the Valley defense barely surrendered a first down.
The Rams held the Eagles to just 100 yards of offense and forced four turnovers.
Andalusia 44, W.S. Neal 13: Andalusia’s Deion Akins had eight carries for 84 yards and was 7-for-8 in passing for 126 yards in his first season start to help lead his team to the win.
On the first drive of Andalusia’s possession in the game, Akins showed why he’s been waiting for this opportunity by carrying the ball 63-yards for a TD.
Before the Bulldogs’ opening drive, W.S. Neal managed to draw blood first when Jeremy Nicholson ran the ball from 43 yards out for a touchdown.
Later in the first quarter, Andalusia added six points when T.K. Bullard carried the ball in from six yards out.
After the touchdown run, Andalusia’s Ralph Sims recovered the ball at the edge of the sideline with 1:29 left in the first.
On a fourth down play, Akins connected with senior wide receiver O’Brien Curry for a 28-yard touchdown pass with 11:36 left in the first half.
The Bulldogs (3-0, 2-0 in Class 4A, Region 1) added six more later in the second quarter when Marcus Ingram carried the ball three yards out.
For Andalusia, T.K. Bullard had two receptions for 31 yards and O’Brien Curry had two receptions for 53 yards.
The leading rusher for Andalusia was Derrick King with eight carries for 50 yards.
Excel 42, Red Level 14: Excel finished Friday night with 592 rushing yards.
Red Level’s Raheem Bullock scored both touchdowns for the Tigers (1-2, 0-2 in Class 2A, Region 1). He scored on an 11-yard run with 6:08 left in the second quarter, and also scored on an 83-yard kickoff return with 2:00 left in the game.
Straughn 35: Cottage Hill 10: Josh Dewrell had 11 carries for 117 yards and three touchdowns to lead Straughn to its second region win.
Dewrell put the Tigers on the board with a 7-yard run with 7:13 left in the first quarter.
With 26 seconds left in the quarter, Cottage Hill scored a safety on Straughn’s bad snap.
With 6:24 left to go in the second quarter, Dewrell added another TD run, this time from 11 yards out. Shaun O’Neil then put the Tigers up 21-2 with a 33-yard run with 3:44 until halftime.
Straughn’s Caleb Green scored on a 7-yard run with 11:40 left in the third, and Dewrell scored on a 20-yard run with 5:35 to go in the quarter.
After being shut out for two quarters, Cottage Hill scored its final points on a 4-yard touchdown run by Daulton Jackson and 2-point pass from Jackson to Michael Howell with 2:37 left in the game.
Dewrell was 2-of-6 passing for 77 yards and was 5-for-5 on PATs. C.J. Christopher had 1 catch for 73 yards to lead the Tigers.

Walton, Fla., 42, Ashford Academy 0: Rafael Truitt had a 50-yard kickoff return. Danny Waggoner had three tackles, a sack and a 27-yard kick return.
Preston Harris had six tackles to lead Ashford Academy, and Tim Garrett added four tackles. Tyler Williams had three, and T.J. Lolong had two.
Dixie Academy 33, Lyman Ward 12: The Rebels had just 13 players available most of the second half after two players from each team were ejected early in the second half following a fight on the sidelines involving players of each teams.
Dixie scored the first two touchdowns on runs by Stephen Price of 18 and 6 yards.
In the second quarter, Dixie went up 20-0 when Eddie Marteli threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Green. Cody Drawdy ran in the 2-point conversion.
Dixie went up 27-0 when Drawdy intercepted a pass and ran it in for a 36-yard touchdown.
Mac Williams threw a 7-yard pass to Kyle Wilson for the final Rebel score.
Taylor Dawson and Price each had eight tackles.

Early County 13, Dougherty 2: Quayven Levatte opened the scoring by recovering a fumble in the end zone in the first quarter, and T.J. Allen put the game away with a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth. Ricardo Castro hit the extra point in the fourth quarter.
LaDonis Bryant led Early County with 63 yards rushing on three carries.
Seminole County (Ga.) 55, Lanier County (Ga.) 6: Barrew Rambo was Lanier County’s worst nightmare Friday night, rushing 12 times for 159 yards and a touchdown as the Indians improved to 2-1.
The Indians drew first blood with 4-yard touchdown run by Tamichael Fedd, and Barron added another score on a 46-yard run. both PATs were good, and Seminole County added another two points on a safety.
Lanier County only scoring came in the first quarter on a pass from Dominick Calhoun to Lance Davis.
In the second quarter, Seminole County’s Owens Parks scored on runs of 7 and 3 yards (both PATs missed) to put the Indians up 28-6 at halftime.
Antwan Buggs added another touchdown for Seminole County with a 5-yard run in the third quarter (missed PAT). Buggs, who scored again on a 14-yard run in the fourth (missed PAT), finished with 8 carries for 71 yards and two touchdowns.
Seminole County closed out its scoring with touchdown runs by Jakhari Martin from 6 yards and P.J. Moore from 11. Both PATs were good.
Chris Brown led the Indians with 6 tackles.
Seminole County (2-1) hosts Atkinson County next week.
