Roundup: Slocomb beats Pike County

BRUNDIDGE — Jermaine Williams ran for 100 yards and a touchdown and intercepted a pass on defense as Slocomb (3-1, 3-0) defeated Pike County 14-6.
Scottie Burdeshaw scored the Red Tops’ other TD, a 1-yard run in the first quarter. Cruise Young had 14 tackles, and Colby Hughes 10 tackles and an assist. Andrew Robinson added an interception.
Will Harper was 7-for-12 for 121 yards.
Quan Bryant had Pike County’s lone score on a 9-yard run in the third quarter.
Bryant led Pike County with 67 yards on 11 carries. Chris Griffin added 54 yards on 15 carries.
The Bulldogs finished with 166 total yards, but had only five yards rushing in the first half.
Elijah Caple had 12 tackles for Pike County, 10 solos.
G.W. Long 26, Elba 21: Dewayne Whigham scored on a 74-yard run with just more than three minutes left and G.W. Long snapped a 16-game losing streak dating to the 2006 season by stunning Class 2A’s 10th-ranked Elba Tigers 26-21.
The win was also the first for second-year head coach George Kennedy at Long.
The Rebels (1-3, 1-2) rallied from 21-13 down to earn the win. Whigham had a 95-yard kickoff return to set up a score to make it 21-19, then earned the game-winner late in the game.
Elba (3-1, 2-1), which had six turnovers, was led by quarterback Michael Lindsey, who rushed for 114 yards, highlighted by a 3-yard touchdown run. He also passed for 66 yards on 6-of-14 with touchdown passes of 16 and 3 yards to Gavin Respress.
Wicksburg 48, Headland 32: Colby Thomley threw three touchdown passes in leading the Panthers to the victory.
Thomley connected with Dustin Cogburn on a 45-yard toss, to James Brock on a 37-yard scoring strike and to Evan Smith for a 20-yard touchdown.
Thomley also scored on a 1-yard run, while Emory Shepard scored form 8 yards out and Brock from 2 yards out.
Thomley was 14-of-24 passing for 165 yards. Wicksburg led 20-12 at halftime.
For Headland, Chase Peterson threw for 101 yards and two touchdowns, both to Seth Crozier. Jontavious Moore ran for 53 yards, and Drew Davis had four solo tackles and seven assists.
Houston Academy 36, Samson 0: The Raiders used a 23-point first quarter to take control of the game early. J.H. Johnson ran for a 2-yard score and threw TD passes of 24 and 83 yards to Travis Gardner, all in the first quarter. HA also got a safety on a bad snap on a Samson punt.
Jo-El Bennett added a 9-yard run, and Jordan Park scored on a 1-yard run to end the scoring. Bennett also had an interception.
Johnson was 8-for-14 for 141 yards passing on the night. HA had 330 yards of total offense and 15 first downs.
Barbour County 14, Houston County 0: Barbour County improved to 3-1 for the first time in school history and is 2-1 in area play.
A week after a 52-50 shootout win, the Lions could not get anything going offensively as the Jaguars’ defense took control.
Barbour County got a 5-yard touchdown pass from Quantez McCrae to Devondrick Richardson in the first quarter, and a Quantez McCrae to Jeremy McCrae 5-yard touchdown toss with 1:15 to play in the first half.
Marco Hernandez added the extra point kicks.
Calvin Fenn, Takwain Whigham and Jermale Blackmon all had an interception each for the Jaguars. Fenn, Shaquille Haynes and Nicholas Brooks all had 10 tackles.
Carroll 34, Booker T. Washington 15: Josh James ran for 218 yards and touchdowns of 67, 34, and 9 yards. A.J. Gissendanner had a 22-yard touchdown run, and Quantiaran Broome added a 35-yard score.
Cottonwood 41, New Brockton 7: Brett Moore ran for 86 yards and a touchdown, Desmond Dubose 66 yards and a score and Keri Pender 46 yards and a touchdown as Cottonwood took out some frustrations.
Pender also had 51 yards receiving and a score, Marcus Glanton caught a TD pass and Moore had another TD reception. Andrew Cain went 11-for-13 for 113 yards and three touchdowns.
Jake Roberts had eight solo tackles and four assists, Rahem Wesley recovered a fumble, and Moore had an interception.
Tevin McNair had 77 yards rushing and the Gamecocks’ lone touchdown run.
Hunter Cauley was 14-of-19 passing for 154 yards for New Brockton with Seth Culverhouse catching eight passes for 120 yards.
Defensively, David Davidson had 12 tackles and McNair 10 for the Gamecocks.
Tallassee 33, Rehobeth 12: Bunk Devane ran for 85 yards and threw for 85 yards, but Rehobeth came up short. Devane threw a 35-yard TD pass to Hunter Waldman and ran 61 yards for another score.
Cody Strickland had 10 tackles, and James Cummings had an interception.
Eufaula 24, Beauregard 13: Daniel Forte had a 26-yard run, Shaquille Ledbetter a 2-yard run and Zach Brown hit Lazabian Jackson for a 35-yard touchdown to lead Eufaula. Will McKee added a field goal.
Daleville 34, Abbeville 18: No stats were reported.
Pike Liberal Arts 21, Glenwood 0: Jerrel Foster ran for 154 yards and two scores to lead PLAS (4-0) to the win. Justin McLaughlin added a 1-yard score.
Douglas Hawkins had 76 yards rushing, and Trey Walters threw for 61 yards. Bradley Floyd caught a 35-yard pass.
Corey Goodson led the Patriots with 12 tackles, and Nick McLaughlin added nine.
Graceville 54, Holmes County 18: Graceville ran for 500 yards on the night, led by Justin Miles with 184 yards and four touchdowns. Antrell Wright added 135 yards and a score.
Crenshaw Christian 34, Ashford Academy 9: Kevin Gray ran for 63 yards and a score, and Aric Allen added a field goal, but Ashford Academy turned the ball over and suffered its first loss of the season. Preston Harris had eight tackles and six assists to lead the defense.
Straughn 40, Bayside 20: No miracles were needed Friday night in Straughn. Straughn (4-0, 3-0) built a 28-0 lead and coasted to the win.
Ryne Taylor was 13-for-23 for 151 yards and two touchdowns. He also had an 18-yard TD run.
Andrew Stokes ran for 147 yards. Eric Samuel scored on runs for 4 and 8 yards, Riley Watson ran a fumble 16 yards for a score, and Taylor threw TD passes to Trae Bowen (8 yards) and Nick Allen (3 yards).
Clinch County 38, Seminole County 22: Johnnie Jones rushed for 186 yards with touchdown runs of 4 and 3 yards and added 85 yards in returns for Seminole County.
Tamichael Fedd had a 3-yard run for the Indians’ other score.
Jackson 53, Andalusia 20: Leslie James caught two touchdown passes for Andalusia, one from Brent Shiver and another from Kenneth Chambers.
T.K. Bullard had a touchdown run for the other Andalusia score.
The Bulldogs finished with 207 yards rushing and 190 passing. Shiver finished 12-of-17 for 153 yards before being injured. Chambers was 3-of-9 for 37 yards.
Florala 54, Kinston 26: The Wildcats earned their first win of the season and the first for new head coach Stan Gooden with a convincing win over Kinston.
Quarve Troublefield rushed for 164 yards and three touchdowns and Jorian Avan added 57 yards and two scores for Florala, which finished with 565 yards of total offense.
Zach Fleming was 6-of-10 passing for 192 yards and three touchdowns, two to Dustin Hinson and one to Shane Taunton, who had four receptions for 137 yards.
Kinston was led by Taylor Davis, who earned 177 yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns. Erick Odom rushed for the other Kinston touchdown.
Brantley 51, Ariton 14: Brantley raced to a 28-0 first-quarter lead and were never challenged in beating Ariton.
Anthony Gulley had a big night for the third-ranked Bulldogs, rushing for 175 yards on just seven carries and earning 70 yards on four receptions. He also accounted for three scores, two on runs and one on a reception.
He did most of the early damage, racing for a 43-yard touchdown run less than two minutes, adding a 64 yard TD run and 47-yard scoring pass from Chase Hall in the first quarter. Hall also completed a 15-yard pass to Tory Upshaw in the quarter.
Craig Sanders put Ariton on the board with a 1-yard run in the second quarter, making it 28-6, but the Bulldogs upped the lead to 37-6 after a safety on a bad Ariton punt snap and a Derek Holley 6-yard scoring run.
Cole Harden completed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Taylor Stephens late in the third quarter before Brantley finished the scoring on two fourth-quarter runs.
The Bulldogs finished with 461 total offense.
Sanders had 62 yards rushing on 13 carries for Ariton, which had six turnovers.
