STRAUGHN — Straughn clinched the Class 3A, Region 1 title with a 28-6 win over Luverne as quarterback Josh Dewrell ran for 79 yards and a score and kicked four extra points.

Dewrell ran for a 1-yard score in the second quarter. Eric Samuel scored from 45 yards out in the third, Shawn O’Neal scored on a 27-yard run in the fourth and Caleb Green scored on a 10-yard run in the fourth. Green’s score was set up by Luke Fussell returning an interception 68 yards to the 10-yard line.

Pike County 13, Geneva 12 (OT): Geneva gave fifth-ranked Pike County a run for its money in Brundidge before Josh Parker’s extra point proved to be the difference in a 13-12 Bulldog overtime win.

Tied at 6-6 after regulation, Geneva had the ball first and scored on 4th-and-1 at the 1 on a run by Tavares McIntyre. The Panthers’ extra point, though, failed.
Pike County then scored on its first play as Martavious Knox raced in on a 10-yard speed sweep. Parker then hit the extra point to win the game.

Both teams scored in the second quarter, but missed extra points. Quan Tolbert scored on a 5-yard run for Geneva and Parker threw a 21-yard pass to Stephan Foster for Pike County.

Despite the loss, Geneva (3-6) advanced to the playoffs thanks to losses by Wicksburg and Headland. The Panthers will travel to Straughn.

Pike County, which doesn’t play in the final week, will host Luverne in a rematch of last year’s opening round.

Houston Academy 38, Barbour County 7: The Raiders, who clinched the No. 2 seed in the region, got big games from J.H. Johnson and Jack Cramer in the win. Cramer caught seven passes for 140 yards and Johnson hit 10-of-12 passes for 143 yards. Andrew Dauphin ran for 74 yards.

Johnson threw touchdown passes of 43 and 36 yards to Cramer. Will Andre intercepted a pass that set up his 47-yard field goal. Johnson hit Will McCann with a 1-yard score and the Raiders led 18-7 at the half.

Along with Cramer’s 36-yard touchdown reception, Jordan Parks scored on a 7-yard run and Claiborne Potter recovered a fumble in the end zone. Andre and Lawson Brakefield kicked extra points in the win.

BCHS’ lone score came on a 1-yard run from Ta’quain Whigham, who had 67 yards rushing. Nikko Patterson had 13 tackles.

Charles Henderson 14, Eufaula 7: The Trojans, who had been eliminated from postseason play, upset Eufaula at home.

On its fourth possession of the game, CHHS struck pay dirt in the second quarter when senior quarterback K.D. Edenfield connected with junior wide receiver Corey Dennis for a 21-yard touchdown pass.

The pass ended a 14-play drive that went 80 yards and took almost five minutes off the clock.

Edenfield ran for 101 yards on 25 carries and threw for 86 yards, a touchdown and an interception, completing five of his 13 passes.

Dennis finished the game rushing for 61 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

That touchdown proved to be the difference maker as the game went on.

With a little over five minutes remaining in the game, Eufaula finally got on the board, thanks to a Demonte Jett two-yard touchdown run, capping a nine-play, 60-yard drive.

Geneva County 39, Ariton 32: The Bulldogs, who clinched the No. 3 seed in Class 1A, Region 2, ran for 449 yards and won a shootout.

Rico Lawson ran 12 times for 137 yards. Desmond Lett ran nine times for 117 yards. Reggie Jones ran 17 times for 115 yards and threw for 89 yards. His 58-yard touchdown run with 3:08 left iced the game. Jones also had an interception.

Jones also had a 3-yard touchdown run and an 8-yard touchdown run. He threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Richard Williams and an 11-yard scoring pass to E-Shane McNeal. Lawson scored on a 14-yard run.

For Ariton, Craig Sanders scored on touchdown runs of 1 and 3 yards and caught a 16-yard touchdown pass.

Defensively for Geneva, McNeal had 12 tackles and a sack, Lawson had 10 tackles and an interception and Bradley Hutcherson ha 11 tackles and a sack.

Enterprise 35, Russell County 6: Willie Curry ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns (48, 5) as Enterprise moved to 6-3 on the year. Deondre Hart added a 5-yard TD run, Rhett Harrelson scored on a 42-yard run, and Ryan Tanner scored on a 4-yard run.

D.J. Kober hit all five extra points.

Ashford 14, St. James 0: Melvin Anderson scored on a 61-yard run in the second quarter, and Ladavion Williams added a 7-yard run in the third. Jeremy McInnish hit both extra points.

Anderson finished with 183 yards rushing, and Williams had 121. Gunnar Peters had five solo tackles and two assists.

Daleville 38, Wicksburg 0: Ryan Soles ran for two touchdowns and caught another for the Warhawks, who will be the No. 2 seed and host a first-round playoff game. A.J. Jones threw two touchdown passes, one to Soles and one to Joe Beckham.

Opp 21, Montgomery Catholic 3: Brett Wilson turned the game around in the second quarter. With 30 seconds left and Opp trailing 3-0, he intercepted a pass and ran it back 75 yards for a touchdown to make it 7-3 Opp at halftime. He also had a 55-yard interception return that set up another score.

Gavin Free hit Josh Thompson on a 14-yard touchdown pass, and Josh Scarborough added a 1-yard TD run.

Dale County 19, Slocomb 0: Happy homecoming indeed. Dale County scored three second-half touchdowns to earn its first win of the season.
Darrius Granger broke the scoreless tie in the third quarter with a 5-yard run. Xavier Hightower added the PAT to make the score 7-0.

Granger then scored on an 8-yard run in the fourth, and Hightower capped the scoring with a 3-yard run. Granger finished with 116 yards on the night, and Johnathan Williams had six tackles.

For Slocomb, Scottie Burdeshaw ran for 65 yards. Evan Ballard had 82 yards passing. Jake Knight and Seth Martinez had 11 tackles each, Colby Jordan seven tackles and Chad Schmidt an interception.

Rehobeth 27, Carroll 10: Madison Williams hit Dallas Snell for touchdown passes of 22 and 8 yards as Rehobeth rolled. Williams threw for 145 yards on 10-of-15 passing.

Ronnie Garcia added a 3-yard run, and Darrius Streeter a 5-yard run. Daniel Hodges recovered a fumble and returned it 45 yards.

Cottonwood 35, G.W. Long 0: Brett Moore ran for 72 yards and caught a 7-yard touchdown pass. Desmond Debose ran for 49 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 100 yards and a score.

D.D. Dawsey ran for 146 yards and a touchdown. Josh Price added the other touchdown for the Bears. Price had six solo tackles, two assists and an interception, and Debose had three solo tackles and an interception. Justin Clark had five solos and an assist.

New Brockton 28, Samson 2: Johnny MacArthur ran for 120 yards, leading the Gamecocks to a win. Seth Culverhouse had 66 yards receiving and 40 rushing. Rushing touchdowns came from Chris Green (6 yards), Tevin McNair (11), Matt Halstead (7) and Michael Haynes (5). Halstead had 14 tackles.
For Samson, Brandon Carter ran for 100 yards on 20 carries.

Goshen 40, St. Jude 14: For the first time since 2001, the Goshen Eagles will play host to a playoff game, this after the Eagles (6-3, 6-1) defeated St. Jude 40-14 Friday night in Montgomery to wrap up second place in Class 2A Region 3.

Goshen’s offense was explosive, scoring four of its seven touchdowns on plays longer than 25 yards. Of those four scoring plays, three went for 60 yards or more.

The star of the game was sophomore running back Reginald Foster, who had 236 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. Foster had runs of 87, 61 and 58 in the game, with two of those going for scores.

Pleasant Home 54, Florala 0: Ethan King had the best night of his career, throwing four touchdown passes and passing for 250 yards, leading the Eagles’ rout of Florala.

Tyler Barbaree once again led the Eagles’ ground game, rushing for 140 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. C.J. Langley had two interceptions and hauled in a 45-yard strike from King for a touchdown. He also booted five extra points. Josh Godwin caught two touchdown passes and added eight more receptions for 85 yards.

Defensively, the Eagles were led by Will Ballard and Dillon Roland. Ballard was in the Florala backfield all night, while Roland recorded 14 tackles and also scored a touchdown on a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter.

The ferocious Eagle defense forced several fumbles and interceptions, one by ninth grader John Newby, who returned it 10 yards for a touchdown.

UMS-Wright 43, Andalusia 12: UMS-Wright’s Chris Dukes rushed for 236 yards on 22 carries and scored five touchdowns.

Andalusia scored on Deion Akins 9-yard touchdown pass to O’Brien Curry and a T.K. Bullard 1-yard run.

Akins led Andalusia in rushing with 12 carries for 122 yards. He was 7-of-12 for 43 yards and one touchdown.

Bullard had 14 carries for 45 yards and one touchdown.

Pike Liberal Arts 49, Macon East 21:
Nick McLaughlin had a decent night on Friday, He ran for 137 yards on 13 carries and two touchdowns, and he had 12 tackles and an interception on defense.

Trey Walters added 85 yards rushing, and Daniel Powell ran for 66 yards and two touchdowns. Powell also caught a touchdown pass. Sam Carroll had 79 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Tanner Grant and Will Starling had seven tackles each.

Cornerstone Christian 33, Ashford Academy 0: Tyler Davies had six solo tackles and five assists. Danny Wagoner added six solos and three assists and had 63 yards passing.

Jared Ingle ran for 52 yards and had three solo tackles and six assists. Tyler Sharron added four solos and three assists.

Dixie Academy 49, Abbeville Christian 6: Jordan Green ran for three short-yardage touchdowns and caught a 30-yard touchdown reception from Eddie Martelli. Stephen Price added touchdown runs of 10 and 5 yards, and Cody Drawdy added a 55-yard run.

Parker Champion scored an 8-yard touchdown for ACA.

Chipley 49, Marianna 42:
Chipley moved to 3-4 and 1-1 in District 1-2B, MHS fell to 4-4 and 1-2. Pensacola Catholic beat Walton 24-20, so if Catholic beats Chipley, there will be a three-way tie for the other playoff spot. Chipley rushed for 463 yards and had 509 yards of total offense.

Colby Harzog rushed for 200 yards on 14 carries and a TD. Johnny Watford had 145 yards and three TDs on 14 carries, and Shonquelle Swain had 118 yards and three TDs on 18 carries.

For Marianna, Tre Jackson had 224 yards and 3 TDs on 13 carries. RJ Bowers had 127 yards on 10 carries and a TD. MHS rushed for 480 yards for the game. MHS led 22-20 at halftime and 35-20 early in the third quarter.

Watford scored the game-winning TD from 10 yards out with 1:57 to play.

Cottondale 56, Rocky Bayou 16: Cottondale beat Rocky Bayou for its first win of the season. CHS is 1-6 on the season.

Nick Jackson had 115 total yards of offense and 4 TDs. Evan Davis had 106 yards and 2 TDs on eight carries.

Cody Cosper had 69 yards on seven carries and a TD, and CJ Smith was 3-for-8 passing for 74 yards and a TD.

Jefferson County 42, Graceville 6: No details were available for this game.
