Three area teams in state rankings
The list of ranked teams in the Wiregrass continued to dwindle this week, reaching a low unmatched in nearly four years.
A week after three teams dropped out of the Alabama Sports Writers Association poll, the area had one more fall out this week, leaving only three ranked teams — the fewest since the final poll of the 2004 season.
Straughn in Class 3A, Houston Academy in Class 2A and Pike Liberal Arts in the Alabama Independent School Association are the lone area teams still ranked.
Houston Academy stayed in despite losing last week to Slocomb 42-17. The Raiders fell four spots to No. 8.
Straughn, unbeaten at 5-0, moved up a spot to No. 5 in 3A, while Pike Liberal Arts, also unbeaten on the year, stayed No. 4.
The team falling out of the poll was Eufaula, which suffered its second loss in three weeks after losing to Enterprise 42-28. The Tigers, however, were the top team in the receiving votes category in Class 5A.
Other Wiregrass teams that are receiving votes this week, but not in the top 10 are Charles Henderson (Class 5A), Daleville and Slocomb (in Class 3A) and Elba (Class 2A).
