ENTERPRISE — The weather Sunday was again sloppy for the Dixie Youth ‘O’ Zone State Tournament.

The host Enterprise Americans play mimicked the weather at times, and because of that, they were eliminated.

Four fielding miscues and a few baserunning blunders put Enterprise down 6-2 in an elimination game with Spanish Fort.

The miscues for Enterprise came on the bases first.

In the second inning, Ryan Allgood led off with a single. He reached third on a double from Dustin Jordan.

Jackson Hanson then grounded to Spanish Fort first baseman Austin Chastang, who threw home.

Allgood was tagged out on the play.

“I made a bad call,” said Bret Dalrymple, Enterprise Americans head coach. “I guessed the play would be at first.”

Christian Davis followed with an RBI single to drive in Jordan, but on the play, Hanson also tried to score.

He was cut down at the plate.

Dalrymple said Hanson must have been a little slower than he thought.

“It was just bad coaching,” he said.

Davis attempted to go to second on the throw that gunned down Hanson.

Spanish Fort catcher Kyle Robertson threw to second in plenty of time to get Davis.

The baserunning woes followed Enterprise into the field in the third inning.

After Billy Brooks drew a walk, he stole second. A balk moved him to third.

An error allowed Brooks to score and Cody Threlkeld to reach.

Threlkeld later scored on a throwing error on a bunt from Hunter Jones.

Spanish Fort went ahead 3-1 on an RBI single from Kristian Cotton.

Spanish Fort pushed the lead to 5-1 in the fouirth when Nick Williamson belted a two -run homer.

After a groundout, another Enterprise miscue allowed Myles York on base.

York scored on another error, putting Spanish Fort up 6-1.

“We had too many errors,” Dalrymple said, adding he believed the miscues came because of nerves. “My bookkeeper had no errors for us last night. Sometimes, you’re the windshield. Sometimes, you’re the bug.”

Enterprise clawed a run back in the fifth when Clark Quisenberry led off the fifth with his second homer of the tournament.

Enterprise threatened in the sixth with base hits from Davis and Jake Parks, but Spanish Fort’s Sammy Harris retired the next two batters to preserve the win.

In other action, Brooks eliminated Clanton 8-2, and Boaz eliminated Fayette County 6-4.

Three games going on late Sunday night were rained out during play. Games between Dothan and Hartselle, Troy vs. Prattville and Oxford vs. South Mobile County will be resumed today at 10 a.m. Win or lose, Dothan will play at 7:30 p.m. today. If Troy wins, it will have a bye. If it loses, it will play today at 7:30 p.m.
