BIRMINGHAM — At the Southern Prospects World Wood Bat Tournament in Birmingham, Dwayne Whitten delivered a run-scoring single and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh inning, helping the Cardinals rally to win 4-3 over Chain Gold of Columbus, Ga.

The win pushed Wiregrass into today’s semifinals at 10 a.m. against Birmingham Baseball. The winner advances to the championship at 3 p.m.

Sloan Simmons picked up the win for Wiregrass. He entered in relief in the top of the sixth and got a ground out with the bases loaded to keep Chain Gold from extending the lead. He pitched 1 1/3 innings. Brent Maloy worked 5 2/3.

Blake Martz had two hits and a RBI, Logan Pierce and Whitten both had a hit and RBI and Sam Judah a double.

Northside wins two, has third game halted: At the Carroll Junior American Legion Tournament, Northside Methodist defeated Carroll 9-0 and Zion Chapel 12-1 on Friday then had a Saturday game with Eufaula halted by rain with Eufaula up 3-2 in the top of the fifth.

In Friday’s win over Carroll, Keith Granger pitched a two-hit complete game shutout with five strikeouts. His brother Gabe Granger had a RBI double. Tyler Phillips and Austin Martin both had two-RBI doubles.

Trevor Johnson and Tanner Strickland had the two Carroll hits.

Against Zion Chapel, Ross Eidson allowed three hits and a run in the first inning then retired 13 straight to end the game and pick up the win. Hoke Granger had a triple and a single with three RBIs, Phillips had two hits and two RBIs and Spenser Sketo had a two-run single.

In the Eufaula game, Blake Vinyard and Thomas Morton had a RBI single each for Northside.

Wicksburg 2-1, Ariton 0-10: On Friday night, Wicksburg and Ariton legion teams split a doubleheader with Wicksburg taking a 2-0 win in the opener and Ariton winning the nightcap 10-1.

In the first game, Blake Williams picked up the win and had a single. Kendall Potts had a triple and scored on an error after the hit. Drew Lee added a hit for Wicksburg.

Cole Harden picked up the win in game two with Ethan Harris pitching the final two innings. James Edmond hit a three-run homer and Harris was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Bradley Deal had a triple and Mikey Strickland, Corey Goodson and Tyler Deal had a hit each.
