Seems there are several of you that are new to this. I don’t have a dog in the fight but I hate to come across things like this and see people making ignorant comments like they are entitled to something. I am quite positive that the reason that certain teams were reported in this is because a coach or responsible scorekeeper called in the score and stats to the sports desk. Most of your high school sports go through the same process unless it is a newsworthy game that attracts the attention of the public and requires an onsite reporter. If you are gonna throw stones, be willing to dodge them as well.
Ok look at it this way - all teams in all divisions knew the rules. If not, there would have been mass confustion at each of the fields of play. Wicksburg either did not understand the rules or disobeyed the rules, either way, a protest occured. Ariton won the protest, Wicksburg appealed, and lost the appeal. There is nothing more to look into. First no one is blaming the players from either side—they played there best. One other thing - -you don’t leave a trophy behind. The Wicksburg team did earn a trophy. It was their decision to walk away from it. Sportsmanship should play in effect from the players, coaches and parents no matter what the outcome.
I appreciate your passion that you have for your team WHS, however, I did not make any disparaging remarks toward your team. There were enough of those passed around on Saturday evening. I am just proud of my daughter, her teammates and our rec. department for doing a fine job in this sport. Ariton team and Wicksburg team both have much to be proud of.
And if you read my 1st remarks, I was not directing anything toward your team. I was directing my comments toward the Dothan Eagle staff for not acknowledging that more teams besides Dothan were in this District play, yet the only story was about Dothan. Troy and Elba also fought good fights during this time of play. Troy advanced. Elba teammates stated that they would be back next year. Good for them. Look to the future.
As far as the protest of the game, yes, it IS OVER. And if you want to come to Hartselle to support our opponants and show your bad sportsmanship, then be my guest.
The comment I made came from what was said by one of the players to our players at Home Plate. Both teams played hard and both teams wanted the Win. Although knowingly, only 1 team could have it. Words flew because there was an issue where it was said all involved were told how many innings could be pitched(this was witnessed by the umpire). And we wouldnt be upset forfeiting had we not been given information which stated 15 innings. We would have took the loss with pride. That is what we are so upset about. We are, however, still looking into the matter further. Enjoy your win….But please make sure you Ariton fans get the story straight as far as how our girls got there. Our girls deserve the truth to be told, not what you heard.
Your comments about Ariton being rude are unfounded. The whole Ariton team stayed in the dugout and was very quiet.
I can say however, parents from both sides were tossing ugly comments. Its a shame that grown ups act that way. Again…rules are rules. Its bad for the girls, but utimately, the Coach should have KNOWN the rules of tournament play. enough said.
Your belief is partly incorrect. We got to district because our girls played ball and won. Our fans, nor our coach or team protested. Someone else did.The protest was not held up and we played ball.Seems like Ariton fans kept telling our girls they knew how we got there. I know because it was said to my daughter. She was very quick to correct the person who said it. We played ball and won. Might want to ask the Cottonwood girls how it happened. We beat them in extra innings. Like you said, Report ALL the information. The difference is Ariton’s team was very rude from the beginning. Luckily, my daughter will be too old to play Dixie Belles next year so we won’t have to deal with this again.Ridiculous. We’ll play Cottonwood gladly anyday. I’m tempted to make a trip to State just to cheer on the opposing team you guys play.
Please report ALL the information.
Wickburg failed to follow the Dixie Rules. Ariton played by the rules. I believe that Wicksburg also protested an
ineligible pitcher from Cottonwood and that is how they ended up playing in the District. The Rule book is made for a reason. Coaches & concerned parents should read it before ALL games. Then you can know what should be done and kept up with.
Ariton won because of a Wicksburg forfeit. But its okay. It’s not over yet. Wicksburg isn’t giving up without a fight. Our girls still deserve to finish the game they started and they just might get that chance.
If you are gonna report on a sporting event like this, report all teams and their accomplishments. Good for Dothan. They have played hard.
Ariton is going to the State in the Belles division for the 1st time ever! This is the first time Ariton has even had a Belle team.
Report it all.
Good Luck to all of the girls!
