T-Day thread

I’m now here for T-Day and they’re introducing each and every player, so we’ll get started with the live-blogging in about 5-10 minutes. Looks like WRs Gerald Tate and Justin Bray aren’t going to scrimmage, as they’re not dressed out. Also looks like DBs Terance Moore and Courtland Fuller aren’t going to play, either. Didn’t know about Moore unless that’s another #20 that looks just like him.

And we’re off. We’ll do this in list format and see how it goes.

• Return to the OWN 45. Quarterback is Jamie Hampton. PAss to M. Terry gets 7 to OPP 48. Quick out to C. Williams gets 2. 3rd and short, DuJuan Harris gets the first down to the 41. Quick pass to Jernigan gets nothing. Hampton QB draw gets 2. Mainor gets a sack shoving down Hampton with a loss of 7. Now it’s 4th and 15 with Goggans to punt.
• Goggans punt was a touchback. 1st and 10 from own 20, Levi Brown is the 2nd QB to go out there, he’s with the second unit. Pass to Kennard Burton gets 8. Moreland gets 2 and a first down. L. Brown on the draw gets 3. Pass to left flat to Cherry gets 7 and a first down. Xavier Moreland then breaks a 55-yard run to the 4-yard line. Levi threw him a nice block late in the run. 1st down PASS INCOMPLETE. 2nd down Moreland is stuffed for no gain. 5-yard TOUCHDOWN to Willie McDowell from L. Brown. Michael Taylor kicks the XP.
• Terrell Bailey returns his second kick to around midfield. Now Tanner Jones is at QB with the first unit at the OPP 47. Pass to Fred Turner gets 11. DuJuan Harris gains 3 to the 32. Jones drills a bullet across the middle to Patrick Cherry to the 7-yard line for a gain of 25. Harris gains 3. Harris gets to the 1. Jones one-hops an incomplete pass and its fourth and 1. 4th and goal and some offensive lineman jumps. Now Michael Taylor will kick a 23-yard field goal and it’s GOOD.
• Kick returned to his own 25. Taylor has been kicking it to the end zone every time. Jamie Hampton with the second unit. Jonathan Chandler is at WR. Hampton is intercepted by Bryant McKissic, who returns it to inside the 10. White team gets 2 points. They’re doing some weird scoring here, so I’ll just tell you about touchdown drives.
• Hampton back on the field, this time again with the 2nd unit. Ball at the 20. Low snap, Hampton keeps, loss of 1. Hampton overshoots Stanley Jones on an out route. Hampton barely underthrows Stanley Jones on a deep route but it’s broken up and fourth down. 1st down again for some reason from the 20. Fernandus Edwards gains nothing on a run. 2nd and 9 and pass incomplete. Now Levi Brown comes in on 3rd and 9. Brown hits Chandler for a first down and gain of 16 to the 37. Brown gets 10 and a first down on a draw that looked like a busted play. Toss to Fernandus Edwards gets about 2. Brown finds Willie McDowell for a first down gain of 20 to the 31. Brown hits Edwards on a short drop, big-time block by Cornelius Williams and a gain to the 7-yard line. TOUCHDOWN Fernandus Edwards 6-yard run. Taylor XP. BRown was 3-of-3 on that drive for 61 yards after coming in for Hampton.
• He ran it out of the end zone, starting on own 9, Levi Brown back out with the first unit. Nice screen but Burton drops it. 1-handed touch sack by Daniel Orr, back to the 2-yard line. 3rd and long from the 2. Harris on the draw gains 5. Fourth down and Goggans to punt.
• That was something. Will Goggans faked the rugby punt and ran 28 yards to the 37.
• Tanner Jones back in with the 2nd group. Moreland runs over some folks, gets 21 yards to the opp 41. Jones hangs on to it too long and is sacked by Cameron Sheffield for a loss of 8. Jones incomplete pass that Trinity Thomas broke up. 3rd and long. Jones ran for about 5 yards when no one got open but holding was called. Penalty refused for 4th down. Actually they’re calling a sack and loss of a couple. Punt time. Cody Daniel’s punt goes to the 10.
• Levi Brown back out with the first unit at his own 10 and the first pass is in-com-plete. End of the first quarter. Cardinal team leads 17-4, or whatever.
• We’re back, Brown still at QB. Harris to the right outside for a gain of 9. 3rd and 1. Harris gains 8 and a first down to the 27. Harris gains 5. Moreland gains 4 and its 3rd and 2. Moreland gains 4 for a first down. Levi gets 5 on a draw. Harris gets 3. Xavier Lamb has 9 tackles right now. 3rd and 1. Harris gets the first down, gains 4 to the OPP 45. Pitch to Harris gets nothing. Another busted play and Levi Brown runs up the middle for a gain of 7. He’s looking good running the ball. Pass to the left to Fred Turner gets a first down to the 28. Tunnel screen to Fred Turner gets another first down to the 15. Harris gains 3. Dion Gales bats down a pass. 3rd and 8. Brown overthrows Williams in the end zone. field goal from 31 yard by Michael Taylor is good.
• Tanner Jones at QB at his own 31. Moreland gains 9 and he’s got 100 yards rushing on just 7 carries. Pass is dropped by Cherry, thrown a little hard but should have been caught. Moreland gains 5. 3rd and 5. Jones’ pass for Burton is over his head and out of bounds and incomplete. Punt time, this time Thomas Starr gets a chance. 26 yard punt.
• Hampton at quarterback with the 2nd unit at his own 27. Center snaps it into the ground and they call a loss of 4. HAmpton gains 4 on a run and its 3rd and 10. Emeka Okosa jumps offsides. 3rd and 15. Fernandus Edwards gets 10, 4th and 6. Actually, we’ll start a new possession, same spot on the field, 1st and 10 with Hampton still at QB. Now we’ve got a delay of game. 3 bad plays on this series by the 2nd team offense. 1st and 15. Hampton drills it across the middle to Matt Stidham for a gain of 7. Hampton faked the handoff and gets a big run of 46 to the 20. 1st down pass shorthops Stanley Jones and is incomplete. Hampton hits Shelby Davis for a 20-yard TOUCHDOWN pass. Mike Taylor kicks the XP.
• 1st and 10 at the own 38. Tanner Jones is at QB. Give to Harris gains 5. Jones hits Jernigan across midfield, 10 yards and a 1st down. Give to HArris and he bowls over some defenders, gains 9. HArris gets 1 and got the first down. Harris gets a big run of 22 to the 15-yard line. Swing pass to Cornelius Williams gets five. Touchdown DuJuan Harris on a 10-yard run. He’s got 107 yards on the day. 2 RBs with 100 yards in the first half. Taylor Misses the 25-yard extra point.
• We’ll start at the own 30 with Levi Brown at QB. Screen to Burton who dances around and falls down for just a 1-yard gain. Out pass to Marcum gets a first down, 19 yards to midfield. Brown airs it out but overthrows Burton. Moreland gains 5. Pass tipped and nearly intercepted. Punt inside the 5.
• Starting inside the 5, Brown is “touched” by Donnell Golden for a safety. He avoids that in a real game.
• Levi Brown again at QB, at his own 20. Brown drills it complete to Burton for a gain of 7. Next pass is overthrown and nearly intercepted. Another pass incomplete. We’re punting.
• 1st and 10 from the 30, Jamie Hampton at QB. Pass to Andrew Davis gains 9. Moreland gets 3 and a first down. Hampton on the draw gets 3. Pass to McDowell gets a first down, gains around 10 or so to the opp 45. Pass to Cherry gets 8. 34 seconds left in the first half so we’re doing some “time management” and a timeout was called. Screen to McDowell gets a first down to the 28. Somebody on the OL moves so a loss of 5. Double pass to Chandler and back to Hampton but it gained about a yard or 2. Chandler get drilled after the pass. Hampton lofts it up just over Andrew Jones in the end zone and incomplete. We’re looking up NFL wonderlic scores and Leodis McKelvin got a 13. Back to the scrimmage - Hampton got “touched” for a sack though he completed the pass. Now it looks like the first half is over.
• Halftime score - Cardinal 33, White 8. Of course the White is all defense and they only get points for 3 and outs and turnovers. We’ll see how much more we play. Boris Lee hasn’t played yet - no real reason to - so Xavier Lamb is racking up the tackles.
• We’re back. Tanner Jones at QB. Jones hits Burton with a bomb, gains 43 to the 27. Jones gains 7 a run. Jones hits Cherry for a gain of oh, 5, for a first down to the 16. Jones gains 4. Incomplete pass. Jones to Cherry gets 4, it’s 4th and 2. Jones hits Williams on a quick slant for the first down to the 2-yard line. Jones’ pass was Intercepted by Tavares Williams in the end zone. I think it was barely tipped but not sure. Needless to say, it’s a turnover.
• Hampton at QB. Hits Mykeal Terry on a short pass that he turns into a 16-yard gain. Pass to someone got 5 yards. Hits Chandler for a gain of 8 or so and a first down to the 39. Hampton hits Willie McDowell across the middle for a 39-yard touchdown pass
• Levi Brown at QB, starting at the 30. Brown’s pass is incomplete. His MArcum across the middle, who breaks into the middle and is ran down after a 44-yard gain. Pass incomplete broken up by Donnell Golden. Hits C.Williams open across the middle to the 19. Pass underneath to Fred Turner gains 5. 2nd down. Slant over the middle complete for a 10-yard TOUCHDOWN to C. Williams.
• Back in action, Tanner Jones at QB. Out pass to Moreland loses a yard or 2. Out pass to Chandler gains 9. Out pass to Fred Turner who gets to midfield, gains 12 first down. Jones across the middle to Shelby Davis gains 24. Now, a 25-yard TOUCHDOWN pass to Kennard Burton. Split the defenders, Burton was out left.
• Levi Brown hits Shelby Davis for 17. Brown to Stanley Jones gains 8. Brown overshoots Stanley Jones. Brown sacked, now fourth down and 8 at midfield. Going for it. threw it deep and out of bounds. Now we’ve got first down from midfield with Jamie Hampton at QB. Hampton hits Stidham on an out route for a gain of 12. Out route to Marcum gains 9. End of the third quarter. Goodness, this is a long spring game.
• Now, we’re back. Hampton gains five to the 23. Hampton hits a wide-open Stanley Jones for a 23-yard touchdown pass.
• Hampton back at QB. At the 30. Hits CHerry for a gain of 15. False start. Across the middle to Cherry who gains 2. Hampton delivers a beauty to Andrew Davis, it gains 32 yards to the 28. Incomplete just past Chandler. Hits Cherry for a first down out of bounds at the 15. Hit Shelby Davis for a gain of 5. Moreland runs for 4. Moreland gains about 1. 4th and short. False start so its 4th and 6. Hampton overshoots Cherry and it’s a turnover on downs.
• Levi Brown at QB we’re at the 30. Brown was “touched” first before he got the complete pass off. I hate that in spring games. Brown a nice pass over the middle to Jonathan Chandler, the former QB. Gains 28 to the OPP 47. Brown hits Willie McDowell for a gain of 5. Complete pass to Josh Brownell but a flag on the play. Holding, so 2nd and 15. Fomby gets a couple. WE’re really going down the depth chart now.

Troy loses to New Orleans

New Orleans pitcher Justin Garcia took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and UNO broke open a 1-0 game with five in the last two innings. Troy got a run later but fell 6-1. Not a good showing for the Trojans against a team that can definitely hit, but pitching is shaky, although sophomore RHP Tim Wheeler appeared to have pitched real well until he ran out of gas in the eighth.

T-Day tomorrow

Just spoke with head coach Larry Blakeney. T-Day has been listed at a 1:30 p.m. start, but the scrimmage itself will kick off around 2 p.m., so don’t worry if you’re a little late. If you get there at 1:30 p.m., you’ll see the team warming up.

Also spoke with offensive coordinator Neal Brown. They will finalize the QB situation for tomorrow after practice today. I asked him if the order of QBs tomorrow will mean anything.

“Yeah, because whoever starts will have earned the right to start this game,“ Brown said. “That doesn’t mean they’re the starter (for the season).“

Coaches hope to get the three QBs Jamie Hampton, Tanner Jones and Levi Brown as many equal reps as possible against the first-team defense and will rotate them in and out on some series.

Not too many injuries. Defensive back Courtland Fuller (shoulder surgery) and receiver Austin Silvoy (knee surgery) are out. Receivers Gerald Tate and Justin Bray (both hamstring) are questionable as is defensive tackle Maurice Coleman (banged up).
